I have my horses first ever showing show on the 14th of this month (next sunday). Im doing horse ring experience, potential sports horse and in hand riding horse classes (and maybe prettiest mare :p ).

I was wondering what i as a handler wear? i have a black pikeur diana jacket, creme jods and matching gloves, black show cane and black boots. Horse hand black jefferies falcon plain bridle and a velvet browband for riding horse classe....what tack/clothes do i need?

Many thanks! sorry being very blond at the moment.

I got my biegey trousers from my mothers wardrobe....possibly not helpful for you.

If not any of the local clothes shops round you, online anywhere - they don't have to be 'special' horsey ones.

Oh and a tie that tones in colour to your browband.

In almost any shop that sells ladies' trousers, i would have thought. Are you anywhere near a Marks & Spencer?

I show my two inhand at county level, it is always a tweed jacket, shirt & tie for inhand.

Trousers need to contrast the horses legs - I wear navy for my grey & beige for my bay. Dad shows my grey wearing dark bottle green cords.

A beagler IMO looks smartest inhand. Brown gloves. Brown/bamboo cane. Smart boots you can run in.

When i show our Highland mare or our veteran boy i tend to wear; a beagler, a cream shirt, tweed jacket, appropriate tie, cream trousers, leather gloves, show cane and jodhpur boots. If your mare has dark legs you are best wearing light coloured trousers to contrast this. I bought mine from George at Asda for a reasonable price and they seem really good quality too. As long as you are smart and tidy for your first couple of shows it shouldn't matter if you haven't got all of the correct wardrobe.
Heres a couple of piccies of me and mine:

Whilst not the end of the world for local shows, though the standard gets higher every year I have found, black jackets/hat/gloves are not correct for females in the show ring.

For in hand you would be better if you can have a tweed, or you could get way with a navy jacket for the horse you have.

You can wear a trilby type hat if you prefer to a hard hat. Brown gloves and cane if possible too.

I would if possible avoid jods, but again some people do use them at county level. If you can, go for some beige trousers or if you have a light coloured horse, then navy, brown or green depending on your jacket. Black boots are fine.

Your bridle will be fine, again some people frown on black, but I have seen it used at county level on some horses - whatever suits the horse best. I used black on my piebald mare.

Finally finishing touches - tie pin, hair in a bun or netted if long, wear a tie and not a stock, ideally in a colour that suits your jacket and horse. Don't have a button hole unless you are wearing a navy jacket and then, very discrete and for ridden rather than in hand.

The main thing is to have fun and enjoy yourself, good luck.

I wear a tweed jacket ( green or blue, I have both) cream shirt, blue tie, brown gloves and show cane. I also wear joddies and long black boots as I do in-hand and ridden at the same show usually ....saves changing.

As above....black jackets are a no-no for showing....

Good luck and have fun, thats the main thing
