Hi guys, I am not new to hunting but haven't hunted for years. What do I need to wear? Do I need a stock shirt, and stock? Please help! As much info as possible will be greatful!
Your don't "need" a stock - a tie will actually do fine. Most hunts will be glad to have you and not overly worried about what you wear as long as it is neat, safe and respectful.
There is a lot of tradition around this and that is for many a huge part of it. But getting out and supporting hunting is more important. In general terms I would say light johds, short boots + gaiters or long boots. Ideally tweed for autumn hunting, hunt jacket after; but both are expensive so your normal jacket will be fine. (Just bear in mind a modern show jacket may not keep you as warm in mid winter as a wool hunt coat or tweed). Shirt / tie or stock.
If you are worried speak to your hunt secretary closer the time and check what would be considered acceptable as it may vary from hunt to hunt.
