In this heat what are you lot wearing ? I don't know what to wear, breeches are too warm ! Is going to a lesson in a pair of shorts acceptable :D

Stirrup strap pinches on bare legs ,...... Ouch :(

I wear brown cords, jodpur boots, half chaps and a shirt or T-shirt ... Usually a shirt but thats because i go straight to the yard from work so just roll up the sleeves and try not to get dirty! :p

I rode in shorts the other day... Never again  between the stirrup leathers and the saddle skirt it pinched when you trot and not much fun at all! I just wear thin jods :)

I have been wearing johds as usual and a vest top. Hacked out on Sunday with 2 friends, both wearing shorts. Both were bitten, stung, scratched and bruised when we got back :) I was the comfiest of us all :)

When it's too hot to even wear my thinnest of jods I wear black cotton leggings and a tank top.

They are so nice and cool, but I fear they may be a little too see-through to go hacking on the roads in (may cause some accidents!) so I stick to riding in the fields! :D

Er, lesson, wot lesson? Stuff lessons in this heat :)

But I'd steer clear of shorts anyway, last time I rode in shorts I would have been about ten, and learnt in one session (ouch!) never to do it again.

Best/coolest thing is a pair of light cotton breeches (not so much material round your lower leg, therefore cooler) coupled with a pair of Endurance/mesh chaps and cotton socks.

On top: a hi-viz (long sleeved if the horse-flies are around) running top made of special wicking material which allows you to sweat but wicks it away so you don't stay damp.

It goes without saying, cotton underwear ;) You'd have to be daft to wear synthetic.

Horse wears a ride-on fly cover, even so the danged horse-flies bite through it.

Normal stuff for me - cotton jodhs, short boots, half chaps, polo shirt, hard hat and gloves.

Would never wear shorts - too painful and never a vest top - imagine the mess you'd make of your shoulder if you came off and it hit the ground first, especially if you were on the road of on hard ground - ouch, ouch, ouch.

Learnt my lesson years ago, and was in a polo shirt then - came off after a bronco style landing when jumping in the field and landed on my forearm. The next day I had to go to a wedding with a graze/bruise from wrist to elbow that matched the colour of the bridesmaids dresses and table settings - oops!

after seeing someone fall off in a t-shirt and hurt their arm I now always ride in a thin long sleeved top but never in the full heat of the day. The lady that fell off thought she had no more than a graze but went to hospital for xrays on another part of her anatomy. They were more concerned by her graze. It turned out that she had to have numerous plastic surgery done on it as it was actually a very nasty burn caused by her sliding across the ground. This happened in a field during summer when the ground was fairly hard but there was a reasonable covering of grass on that ground. I hate to think how much damage would have been done if it had happened on the road.

Having decided it was too hot to ride earlier I'm going for a plod round the wood this evening. I was going to wear usual jods, daughter's jod boots as too hot for long boots, and a polo shirt, but read spike's post and think long sleeves may be better...oh and lots of citronella spray for me and ponio!

Endurance tights
Riding trainers and matching endurance half chaps
Running vest or t-shirt
Troxel helmet

All as cool and lightweight as can be, and designed for sweat removal!

Shorts and vest top, bareback!!

Leggings are a good idea. I rode in jods and a vest top today at about 1 and felt fine, but I like the heat :p Schooled baby pony, and luckily for me he is very forward going!

if you get the really thin leggings from primark ( you know... the see through ones.) and wear 2 pairs it stops them being see through :D then I wear a cycling/running top which was £6 from sports direct :)

I'm weird and still going round in jods, chaps, boots and a t shirt- all of which are coloured black :D I can't bear pinches on the legs.

I will admit to schooling on the flat without a hat for the past week.... keep it with me in case I pop a couple of jumps or fancy a hack. I also keep bottles of water by the school to chuck on my myself and the horses during the session which really cools you down if there is a breeze

Joddies or leggings and a vest top :p Although, I don't have any other riding boots than the big ryedale mucker boots I got for christmas so basically frazzle from the waist down :p

Shorts!! If you pull up your socks a little it stops all the pinching and is still much cooler than jods or leggings. Just get a pretty pair, it doesnt look weird as it sounds:p
Jod boots and polo/ lightweight top plus hat aswell.

Hounestly i think people who say riding in long sleeves only may be being a little over precautious, its so hot and if you trust your horse no worries. If you fall off a sleeve will hardly save much, ive had a very very bad wound through really thick fleecy jods. But then where i am hacking is almost all off road with the exeption of a few minor quiet crossings.

Ride in shorts all the time, not an issue at all! I am lazy though and the appeal of not tacking up is strong, so bareback it will be for me later :D

I wore shorts and half chaps yesterday. Worked a treat. My legs are always a mess from insect bites in the summer so I have nothing to lose!

This isn't the weather for riding. This is the weather to put on shorts, get out the trap, and go out with a large flask of iced drink and a stop outside the village café for ice creams all round.
