Going down to spectate, first time we've been.

Think it'll be cold? Will we need boots on as it's an indoor event?

What does everyone else wear?

I normally find it hot in the day and then (as I get tired) cooler in the evening- not cold though.

Normally a top and a thin jumper that i can tie around my waist if needed, jeans and comfortable shoes- all carpeted so no 'need' for boots

You mean you are going to defer from the usual "uniform" of gilet, furry muff on head and dubarry boots?

Indoors, outdoors, it doesn't matter. You should wear the "uniform" to all horsey events.

Hahaha! And the kids that wear their best jods and boots- i presume they have their hat in the car too - Just in case they are needed to ride!!!

Yeah I had visions of me turning up in my trainers and hoodie and everyone else being in their quilted jackets and dubarry's  or worse.... tweed! lol

Layers are key.

It's warm when you're walking around the trade stands but then can get chilly sat in the arena. And then it's usually cold while making your way back to the car afterwards!

I can't wait, 5 weeks to go! :D

Have to say a quilted waistcoat with lots of pockets is the most useful thing to wear - I hate carrying a handbag so money and keys can go into the waistcoat and they keep you warm without overheating.

It can get very hot in the arenas but cold walking to and from the car. Wear the most comfortable footwear you possess - if this is boots, then wear boots. To be honest, we are often walking round in dubarrys as we are in and out of the stable area into the arenas and it is the easiest thing to wear. You get people who are dressed to the nines and people who look like they have mucked out 10 horses and not slept for a week - no one really cares!!!

Absolutely! I am sure the full house of HOYS stereotypies will be there in force :D

It's definitely not as 'country' as other events, not muddy, car park is sometimes quite a walk. There will be lots to buy there if you get it wrong!

I have tickets for the Friday to see the coloured classes and you know this hadn't even crossed my mind. So I'll be jeans and hoody (and possibly stupid grin at all the lovely hossies) as well. :D

Ah good news! Don't feel so stupid now! lol

We are flying down friday morning coming back friday evening!

Maybe we should try for a meet up. it would be interesting to meet some other forum members. :)

I'm lucky because I'm very local so short drive.

Layers and comfortable footwear - as others have said the temps vary hugely depending on where you are in the building.

I always come home with my first winter cold from Hoys....!

I'm ALWAYS too cold in the morning (though we do go at silly o clock to watch the workers) and ALWAYS too hot by lunchtime (though that "may" have something to do with the champagne bar...) so thin layers is definitely the way to go. And comfortable shoes because you'll be amazed how far you walk
