Off to Olympia next week. Last time I went was about 20 years ago!. As we are going on the train don't really want to be lugging coats/woolly hats ect around if not needed. Is it cold inside or does it get fairly warm? Sorry, just trying to be organised for once!

I'm always warm, but take body warmer for outside while getting to train.
It's packed inside so you don't want to be lugging loads of stuff round and the seats see quite tight too so anything you have or purchase needs to go under seat or in your lap as there's no leg room otherwise.

we are going to a nice hotel for lunch first so idk if i would look stupid a bit dressed up? obviously not heels etc!! but i know when i've been to hickstead etc people wear jods/country boots!

It is indoors and not muddy, so not much need for country boots apart from if they look nice, I won't be in "riding/country gear" normal casual clothes with nice boots I should think, I wouldnt worry about being over dressed!

I went to YHL and the only time I noticed what somebody else was wearing was if I liked it/wanted it! I wouldn't worry too much apart from being comfortable enough. Also if you were going to look at buying say long boots - you'll be best wearing jods/leggings/thick tights to try on with. And same with riding hats - if you want one of those no fancy up do!

Jeans, boots, etc, I always look at people walking round the shopping and wonder if they are riding - they wouldn't look out of place at the yard save the lack of mud and stray bits of hay in hair (?just me then?) I'm usually cold when I'm there but then at some point get incredibly hot when the crowd picks up and end up stripping off. Personally I do favour a christmas jumper but then I am a little over enthusiastic about christmas generally! There are people quite dressed up but they tend to be sat in the boxes and they are far in the minority!

Love olympia, first year in almost 20 that we haven't gone, just so much on this year - it's my mum and mine family ritual since I was child - I grew up about a 2 minute walk away from Olympia!

No, not just you! I always wonder what people dressed in jodhs and boots thought they were going to do at such events. They look ridiculous, imo.

Like that advert for snickers I think it was, set at a football match and one of the players has to go off sick so some dude in the crowd steps in. When I see them wondering round in jodhs I wonder if they think the commentator is going to announce that a rider in the puissance can't ride and does anyone wants to hop on and have a crack ;)

Same time I do understand that you go whats comfortable and for most of us that's our horse gear. Just used to amuse me growing up round there that for one week a year, there was a flood of lost looking souls without their steeds. In Central London it was not the commonest of sights!

Thanks, very helpful! Christmas jumper and body warmer it is then! I always laugh when I have to pop into shop/town/school in johds and boots as they seem to be the fashion, well leggings and boots minus the hay and mud and horse smell! Don't feel too much out of place. But I agree that some people dress up as if they are going to be riding at these events when they are there to watch.

!

Hehehe, I always think that too :-D

It is pretty warm inside, in fact it can be boiling in the shopping so don't layer up too much. You will look a twonk in jodhs and boots. Most people will be in jeans, comfy footwear, a jumper/shirt of some kind (maybe joules or similar? ) and a coat.

It always makes me laugh when people go to things like this in Jods or yard boots. I think people are saying 'yeh, I'm horsey!', well we kind of know that because you're at Olympia!

I go jeans, vest, light fleece and a gillet and scarf. Later a bit because it does get warm and you can whip off your gilet if need be.

As its indoors and very busy, it's not overly cold.
Wear anything that fits in with your day. People have busy lives, so often turn up in what they've been wearing that day, not having had time to get home to change. Lots of people come in office wear, others come in jods and boots straight from the yard and some come in very clean and shiny new country attire. No one cares as long as you don't smell too strongly of horse pee.

Weird thread. It never entered my head anyone had to dress special. It's a London venue and I wear normal winter clothes. I assumed that people wearing riding or yard type stuff didnt actually own other clothes as their money went on keeping their horses?

I always get so hot at Olympia! Skinny Jeans, Boots with a bit of a heel and a little top is my uniform. Don't know if you have them but definitely worth getting members passes...........the view from the bar is so much better!
