A week or so again there was a 'hot' day, no where near as hot as yest/today.

I was riding in jods, a tshirt, body protector and reflective. And nearly melted!

I blame the body protector but obviously I'd prefer not to ride without it!

I hopped on today in shorts and a tshirt with reflective and was far cooler but definately wasn't ideal!

Ideas on a postcard?

Thanks

try some sports clothing. i go running (when im being good) and my t-shirts are breathable and keep you much coler than plain cotton. i have one for wearing under body protector when going xc on warm days, its great no boob sweat patches on t-shirts lol :D

Well the last few days i've been wearing my jeggins and a long footie tshirt. The jeggins are much cooler (temperature wise :P ) then jodpurs, but it prob still isn't ideal....

Umm..ok. Again, I live in Africa :p It gets pretty damn hot sometimes. I always ride in jods, and used to wear tank top type shirts, but then I realised I would rather not look like a prune of some description when I'm older, so now I wear loose, thin polo shirts.

Men's shirts also work. Put on a tank top, and get a shirt to put over it..only have to do up the top button. That way you don't get burnt, nor do you get hot.

Oh, and light colours :) Avoid black and navy like the plague!

Sports top sounds a good idea!

And I wear jod boots with my shorts, have no other shoes good enough to ride in. Tried to in Converse once...I M P O S S I B L E! lol

Suncream!

Wish I'd thought of that this morning, before having a lesson whilst wearing a sleeveless tee-shirt :o :(. Now have sunbrunt shoulders and arms, so will spend the rest of the week wearing light, loose long sleeved shirts. Ah well....

I'm with Mrs Mozart - remember your suncream. I had a lovely hack late morning today, but am now turning rather red around the arms.

I had a ventilated hat on (the troxel one) which is nice and cool, sunglasses, shortsleeved T shirt/breeches/halfchaps and boots.

I wish I had had a lighter colour of breeches on though (mine were black).

Its not that hot really, I rode on the track in Australia and you have to wear body protectors and PAS standard skulls caps, fair enough we started riding at 4am but by 8am the sun was well an truly up and it got up to 40oC. I wore lightweight combats or jods and a light sports top and just coped. It wasn't that bad. Here I ride early in the morning or later on in the evening, I finish work at 4pm, have dinner around 5pm, then go out. My boy is a sweaty fella so its more pleasant for him and he always has a shower when he comes back, I'm just off in a bit for a ride now before it gets too hot for him.

i have really thin cheap jodhpurs that are a lot cooler, they're made of nylon rather than cotton
i wear short boots with chaps too rather than long boots as find them much cooler
and then just a tank top/strappy top/tshirt

I always suffer with the heat; hate it in fact, oooohhh those nice brisk winter mornings, much better for me and my poor little sweet-itchy man.

I get heat rash on my legs if I'm not careful, the skin comes up all red and blotchy and looks awful, so I go for leather joddie boots rather than long boots (awful). I also bought some chaps a few years ago at a County Show, which I think were Loveson make, and they've got little perforated holes so are really cool - when you're riding you can feel the air going through them: bliss!

I find a long-sleeved cotton shirt cooler than anything else and protects from the sun too. And yes, Troxel hats are brill, however if you're out in a high wind it can make an awful noise as it goes through the hat - nice and cool for you but might spook some horses.

Oh, and cotton underwear & socks definitely, you don't want anything synthetic, I wear Sloggi passion-killers as they basically just stay where they are and don't slip or anything.

I went to a running shop and bought some fab neon coloured, hi vis running tops which cut out the need for reflectives as they're so bright and are designed to have airflow, which keeps you cool & wicks away sweat. One is bright pink & clingy with long arms; I wore it yesterday and wasn't too hot despite the arms. The other is like a normal polo neck and bright yellow.

This is the pink one:

and this the the t-shirt, though mine's yellow:

Riding is a sport and as such there is the correct gear for the job. When we took chestnut sausage and brown burger out today I wore jodhs, my ariat coniston boots with thin socks and a real golfing polo t-shirt. Any sports top that wicks is good you can turn the collar up on a polo shirt so you don't get burnt neck and the little sleeves protect your shoulders -Sunscreen on your arms and you are sorted!. My days of riding in a vest are over since getting burnt and knocking my shoulder with a jump pole a couple of years ago. It never healed and the doctor told me a couple of weeks ago it has turned into a skin cancer :( I have an appointment soon to see what the specialist says.

When I worked at my yard as a girl we always had to have our arms and bodies covered in the heat, we wore shirts and ties and we were cool and cut a very very fine dash too.

If you want to make a fashion statement go to the gym but riding horses in shorts and daps or a bikini must be the most stupid suggestion ever!

Call me old fashioned...... :)
