Hi all, I have just purchased a second hand Ifor Williams HB510 which i am so excited about as it's the first time I have had my own transport!

What locks do you suggest for when it's not being used? There are various one's, I thought I might get 2 one for the tow lock and one for the wheel?

Most other people seem to have the ifor Williams one's but they seem very expensive?!

Cheers

I have a fautras which has a built in hitch lock and I use a bulldog wheel clamp. It is a right pain to get on and off but once you get the knack its ok and they are supposed to be the strongest.

I had a nightmare getting a hitchlock from halfords for my 510! Brought 3, none of which fitted so went for a bull dog wheel clamp in the end.....xx

I have a Bateson Deauville & that has a hitchlock incorporated into the hitch,.....I also have a locking bar that locks onto a couple of replaced wheel studs onmn one of the wheels.

I use the linkmaster wheel and hitch log - very heavy and well made, not the easiest to use as it is so heavy but very effective. They cost me best bit of £300 but you get what you pay for.

Will not stop really determined thieves but having a hitch lock, wheel clamp, attached to a ground anchor and a postcode/security markings will make them think twice or nick the one nearby that does not have all this preventative measures.

Forget the hitch lock they are useless.
When they stole our trailer it had a ball lock in it, all they did was fasten a chain round the front, lift the trailer up a bit and tow it away lock and all.
Get a proper wheel clamp, caravan shops sell good ones.

The police advised us to put 2 wheel clamps on diagonal wheels as well as a hitch lock and chaining it to a secure post.

I did the exact same thing as you,i got so p**sed off.In the end i got a SAS Hitchlock for £65 off some website, they are the best along with the bulldog ones.Come to think of it i still have it and it was only used for 2 mths as i sold the trailer, will PM you as it has the 3 keys you get with it and i think the original box! c

We have also recently purchased a 510 and bought a bulldog wheel clamp QD22 (13" wheel no trim) from Ivor Williams themselves as had difficulty finding one locally - total cost around £100.

Locks are easy to remove. About a 20 second job.
Put your home post code on the roof of the trailer in great big white letters so that it can be seen from above.
Ring fence your trailer with heavy duty lgirders which are concreted 3 feet in to the ground and have one removable one so that you can get trailer in and out with the lock boxed in so that it is more difficult to angle grind it off.
