well i am looking for a single trailer and was wandering;
what make trailer do you own?
what trailer you would buy ?
why you would / did buy that make?

i dont like single trailers :o i dont think i would want to load in one if i were a horse and they look like they could tip over easy but an ifor williams trailer or equitrek :)

i am going for a single because they have more room a single ifor is
single 403 = 1.73m total width (internal width is 1.30m)
double 506=2.10 m total width (internal width is 1.67m)
just an example :)

so really a very small difference considering one holds 2 horses this means i can have a smaller 4x4 and only have to please my self my horse travels behind my car as apposed to on one side and as i am only really ever going to take mine i think its a very sensible and best option for my horse.

i do stand to be corrected tho advice very welcome.

I got a rice. Mainly determined by my budget :o but we found an absolute gem is old and not the best colour but has a 10 year service history and had a full refurb a few years ago, the floor is solid and it came with a single breast bar incase we wanted it and the floor has removable rubber mats. Was a bargin and every one who see's it agrees does its job perfectly and is easy to spot in a lorry park (not many trailers that colour).

ETA why not get a normal double trailer with a single breast bar - horse has loads of room and you have the option of taking two if ever you need to or putting your stuff in the unused side.

thats the main thing. What colour is it ;)

You don't necessarily need a 4x4. A Landrover Freelander can only pull 2000Kgs. An Audi A6 can pull 2300Kgs (dependent on model). A Volvo V70 is 2000Kgs. A BMW 3 series is 1600Kgs. We now pull our horse with a diesel car and get 36-39 mpgs whilst towing. This has made a real difference to our costs and ability to go further afield. You need to know your weights and do the math. Larger cars can tow just as much as most smaller 4x4s - this is because smaller 4x4s are nearly always based upon a car chassis.

Its brown :o Its not that bad really it is a factory colour but I havnt seen any others that colour. You probably have visions of me turning up in a barbie pink trailer now .

Yes i totally agree i have been looking and comparing towing capacity etc for weeks lol but i do need a 4x4 really for dogs and winter. I bet it has made a big difference to your costs.:)

Hello iv got ifor williams 403 its brill, much better than a double trailer

Our 403 is massive we can tack up in it plenty of room, I never hear a peak out of our mare when I'm driving it

Also shows are less stressfull when u only take 1

Not sure why people say they are dangerous! But I'd like to see the evidence ifor williams say they are safer than a double

Rice, the old ones as they are lovely and sturdy! Can't be dealing with these new lighter trailers, whilst they are probably up to the job IMO the sturdier trailers offer more protection. My current trailer is a Bahill, but that wasn't an option!

If i was getting a single trailer - an ifor as their singles look much more stable and wider than others. Personally if poss I would get a 2 horse just in case you want to go to a fun ride etc with a friend who doesnt have transport. You can remove the partition and add a full breast bar (and breach if needs be) and hey presto even more room to tack up :). Does depend on what car you want to buy though. For a double trailer again an ifor in my experience they are good build quality and friends with equitreks/ stars despite me initially envying their jockey area I soon realised it was no better than the empty half of an ifor! And they suffered with issues like ripped rubber matting and the like. But this was 5 years
ago or so :).

I want dafthoss's Rice Europa. Even if it is poo brown. When I finally scrape together the money that is what I'm going to buy. Nice and light without being flimsy and because they're old and not an equitrek affordable too :)

I used to own a Bateson and loved it, not sure they do a single? You don't see many singles about so not sure how you'd go on if and when you came to re-sell?

Oh sorry get an ifor williams, they hold their value so well, they do this for a reason they are great

This is so true. When I was looking for one last year, second hand, they were around £3500- £3750. A brand new one was £4000. We bought one through the farm so we can use it as a 'sheep trailer' too, and once you knocked the VAT off, it worked out cheaper than a second hand one...

Recently bought a single Ifor Williams, as I don't travel 2 horses anymore. It's great, a solid, well balanced trailer. The horses are perfectly happy with it as am I.
