I'm debating between a lorry (need to re-learn driving a manual transmission) or a auto 4x4 & trailer.

I currently have an elderly but worth its weight in gold "Sinclair" which aren't in production anymore. So...

Ifor? Rattly, don't like how they tow, don't like the unload onto the road side and would need the XL510 (one 17.1hh ISH and a 152cm ConniexTB, or eventually a WB). How do they compare to a Richardson, Bateson or Rice?

Faustras (sp?) Like the look of the oblique models..anyone have one of those? Or the Equitreks?

I actually like the Ivor we have quite a lot. The front unloading is a darn sight better then trying to push a horse backwards down a blind nasty ramp.
Don't have any grumbles about the towing performance with a Discov., but it is a bit rumbly/rattly as you say if the horse stamps its hoof on the floor.

I've seen Fautras in France, but a breeder we knew had some problems with the welding of the frame on hers! They look quite weighty for towing...

cheers

I have a Henra trailer nice and light 750kg can be unloaded from either side at the front with doors not ramps so horse just steps down. the back door can be a ramp or swung open which is great for loading from a forklift

Love my Bateson Deauville. Has a very handy coupling mirror. Nice long window in the front so can see what the boys are up to when travelling. Unloads onto the pavement side of the road - great for safety if we ever broke down. Has self levelling suspension and only weighs 870kg. Doesn't rattle at all & is bright & airy inside. Doddle to tow!

I'm a Bateson fan & I have the Deauville model. The build, the ride, the design is all first rate & it doesn't rattle at all.

It can take a 17h2" no problem, it's very light with the large front window, there is a mirror fitted as standard to aid hitching up. Unlike the Ifor Williams the ramp opens kerb side for safety & it has external tie rings....which for some reason the Ifor's don't have

Resale value remains very high so they are a sound purchase.

I prefer backing them out - will only us front unload in an emergency!

Faustras are lighter than Ifor's according to the maufacturers sites? 900kg vs 1050kg

Seems like Rice & Bateson's are popular too - will see if I can have a look at those in person.

Do not believe the weight given for Fautras trailers! We had Weezy's Oblique for a short while, and it was incredibly heavy both to tow and to manoeuvre on the ground. Plus being rounded at the front there was nothing to get hold of.

Really? So how much do they really weigh? And did you get rid of the Oblic for a specific reason?

Hi,

I bought a new ifor 510 this year and was pulling my 16.1hh gelding in it two weeks ago. It suddenly and for no apparent reason started snaking behind me, i lost control and it flipped over. I was driving at 30mph. The fire brigade had to cut him out and the accident investagtor could find no explanation for the accident. The vet said he's very lucky to still be here. I wont ever pull a trailer with my horse in as long as i live. If you have a choice get a horse box!!!! They are so much safer!

Really dont think you can beat an ifor williams my dad lives in spain and has 6 ifor williams for motor bikes quads, horses , ect.. i have one two x he has taken the horse box empty over 100mph and it didnt rock they maybe heavier than a bateson but beleave me this can work to your advantage , i just think an ifor williams is generally better and i think put through a challenge it would come out smiling x it just simply seems stronger!

ow and please if ur ifor williams rattles it is because u havent got all clips done up inside as mine was bran new last year and doesnt rattle when evrything is done up inside i have the standard size and carry two big 16hh horses in it every weekend the only thing i would say is it is abit harder for the horse on the right to go down the front ramp allthow in my friend hunter size ifor we have no probs x
are yard if full of ifor williams two bateson one rice ow and a new trailer not sure of the make the ones with the horse head on the side i dnt hear many people moan about any of ther trailer to be honest i surpose each to ther own !
