What type of stubble do you ride on/avoid??

Was just interested to know what people think of the various types of crop stubble available... I took my lad out last night and there was a beautiful spring barley field that had been cut the day before - perfect for a good blast. Next door was a rape field - there is no way I would even ride my horse across rape stubble, but I noticed that someone had continued riding from barley stubble into rape stubble and just wondered if other people think it is safe to do so?

I walk a lot of stubble on foot, and rape stubble hurts my legs to walk on! The stems are very woody and could potentially cut or puncture the horses legs and soles. My JRT gets a cut nose running through rape stubble. Am I being overcautious or do others avoid riding on rape stubble as well?

We only ride in our own farm's stubble fields (wheat/barley). Near by other farmers have dug ditches etc to stop moles / have random bird scarers scattered

so avoid any unknown fields anyway. We only ride in our own fields anyway as other farmers get a bit

with random people galloping over their fields even if they are stubble. Someone locally fell off in a stubble field she wasn't supposed to be in and tried to sue the farmer

. After that the big farm down the road always lock the gates and plough up quickly after.

Its just not as fun as it all used to be - before stubbling PLEASE check you are allowed to be on that land

I'm so cautious about stubble fields!!
I dont really notice what the difference etc is when its cut but I'm paranoid about cuts/ punctures in all of them - having never walked on the different types on foot.

All my friends get really excited about the oppurtunity to have a blast through all the fields - I'd really rather not.

Doesn't make much difference to me what kind of stubble it is, I don't like riding on any of it. It's too sharp and spiky and is always littered with hidden sharp flints. I avoid it.

I aviod rape stubble......but other than that its access all areas for me....been riding accross stubble fields for 3 decades or more without a problem. No horse has ever had a cut/become footsore or lame.....best time of year IMO......

We are lucky as I know all the local farmers and have permission to ride on most fields. I know where I can and can't ride and as part of my work I know which fields are stony, rutted etc.
