This has probably been asked hundreds of times on here, and when I have searched, no one has really mentioned a price (maybe I am not searching correctly)

Firstly, would you only do a stage 2 vetting on a yearling. Obviously, a yearling cannot be exercised for the vetting, I'm not sure about flexion tests on such baby legs??

How much is a stage 2 vetting, and what does it generally include as a rule of thumb?

Thanks

For basic pre-sale exams mine have eyes, lungs, heart checked. Bloods taken. Walk, trot in hand, or round pen. General hands on going over.

No flexion tests

For a yearling, you'll only have the choice of 2 stage.

Costs will be down to your vet.

I had a yearling vetted last year. Two stage. Involved good general check over of body and limbs, hoof tested, heart, lungs, eyes checked. Walked and trotted, walked in tight circle/walked backwards and flexion tests. Bloods taken. Price was just over £100, plus callout/travel costs, but prices do vary from practice to practice. I think individual vets might vary exactly what they will do on a youngster, dependent on its exact age and stage of development and how much its been handled. Probably best to call your vet/practice you intend to use and talk to them, this won't cost you anything and will give you the clearest picture.
