Hi all, I recently bought my new horse an Arab x welsh and with his x breed he is very fine haired. I currently have him turned out 24/7 till October but need to get some rugs for him pretty sharpish. Can anyone recommend what weight rugs an Arab X may need, how many to have and also where to buy them ? He currently is turned out in a no fill lite weight masta rug which seems fine for now but my thoughts are I will need somethinge along the following lines....

200g turnout rug
2 stable rugs
380g plus turnout rug
liner for stable or turn out rug
fleece cooler

Can anyone help recommend any sites and also help with the right weights to get, I don't want my boy getting too cold or too warm.

In winter he will be stabled during the night and have turn out from 7am- 3pm each day.

thanks

Don't overestimate how heavy a rug to buy. Is your pony a good doer? My arab mare only grows a fine coat but as she is such a good doer she never needs more than a 200g rug. Even when it was minus temperatures last winter.

I got my arab two Rambo Duos and two 100 gram liners. I also have a Thermalux. This covers all the rugs he needs (Duos used as field and stable rugs), plus unless he's ever clipped he'll never even need to wear the 300 gram liners the Duos come with.

I'm another Horseware fan. :) I've got various Amigos, Rhinos and Rambos for my neddies. My anglo-arab really feels the cold, but she was fine in the snow in her Rambo Duo with the 300g liner (see below). I also got the 100g liner so that I can use the Duo as a middleweight turnout as well.

ETA ^ She is not clipped in the photo, that is as hairy as she gets. :(

I never use the neck cover, ;) but I do like the Wug/half neck style alot.
