Hi all, i know i have still got ages until little daisy mae come home lol but i am desperate to have her and trying to organise everything lol.

So what would be best to give a 5-6 month foal who has been weaned. I know there is those foal mixes you can buy, well which one is best? Just want to know so can go and bug the farmer into ordering it for me!

Thanks

You ask well in advance what the breeder is feeding and keep to that at the beginning. It's hard enough for a newly weaned to leave its familiar surroundings without giving it something it's not used to eating as well. Please keep it on that for at least a month, then if you are dissatisfied with the results change it over to something more suitable but make sure you take at least a fortnight for the change over; foals are notoriously finicky feeders sometimes and a new taste doesn't always go down well.
Most breeders worth their salt will give you a diet sheet and some feed to tide you over until you can buy the same but you have the added advantage that you know already when it is arriving so have no excuse not to buy the feed well in advance.

i fed destiny mare and foal mix with a bit of chop..
its by dodson and horrell.
she is now on phase 2 and seems to be doing well on that

spillers young stock wix and milik pellets for a month then wean off milk pellets and just feed the young stock mix!

I feed yearling cubes to my 2yo and have done since he was 8 months olf. With a bit of chaff to bulk it out.
