So, fingers crossed I have a horse on loan, with view to buy,

He's coming with everything he has; but I am expecting to buy some bits and bobs.

He's coming with;
1 Lightweight Turnout
1 Heavyweight Turnout with Neck
1 Stable rug [Unsure as to wether its heavy or light]
Saddle [and all acessories]
Bridle
Headcollar

So, here's my shopping list so far:

Grooming kit
First aid kit
Feed bucket
Water buckets
Leadropes
Headcollar
Lunge line
Lunge Cavesson
Haynets

Will he need any new rugs? He's 16hh TB, but lives out all year, and is just wearing a waterproof sheet at the moment.

Any things you can think of please let me know; I've probably forgot loads! :D xxx

Thanks! Completely frgot about that! Will a tabard for me, tailgaurd, and bands for the bridle do? Or am I best getting an excercise sheet or something? :) Thanks xxx

I would be prepared to set aside some money for some replacement rugs/a fitted saddle etc. As from experience sometimes the kit that comes with some horses isn't all that/doesn't actually fit the horse! :)

If he is living out you may want to get some spare turnout rugs for if his current ones get wrecked/too wet etc and he will need a spare to wear whilst they are being repaired or dried out.

Maybe a m/w rug for when a l/w is too thin but the h/w is too much, unless you're going to put the stable rug underneath the l/w?

Any equipment for him to travel in?

I normally have the basics with rugs but also like to have a rug (thermatex type) that wicks away sweat/water etc before I chuck them back out in the field again especially when it's cold.

Thats what I was hoping, :) I think I might buy another waterproof sheet, it can be on its own in summer, or over a stable rug :)

Good idea about setting money aside;thanks :D xxx

You sound like you have most things that you need, with the things from your list. Certainly enough to live with until you find out what else you need by living with him. Have you got hay/feed ready if he is on any?

He's currently on one haynet a day, but Im going to gradually increase that and gradually introduce some hard feed; have emailed some feed companies to see what feed they would suggest but I was thinking something like Dengie Alfa - A, and then when I Start to work him introduce something like Baileys lo-cal ? But I'll see what the experts say :D

Thanks xxx

Guess it depends on how much you have to spend, I never go out without a reflective tabard on, and I have a reflective exercise sheet for when it gets cold. Planning on getting some leg wraps this winter too.

Yeah, I think I might just get the basics now, excercise sheets seem a bit expensive - or maybe Im just looking in the wrong place? :p

Ladyinred - Thanks! Completely forgot about that! I'll pop to B&Q later :D xxx
