16 year old mare, 15.2 thourghbred X irish draft,
Sound apart from a leg wound (granular growth). Owners said she needs to be on walking only for a few weeks, after that she should be fine to get back into regular work. I like the mare, and so long as the wound heals and she can be ridden reguarly again, then she would suit my purpose.

How much would you pay for this horse? As i hate when Ad's say "open to offers", because i never know whats cheeky or whats appropriate half the time. Don't want to phone and offer something stupid. lol. What would you offer?

I would not offer anything until I was sure she was sound. Then not a lot as she is 16 and may go on for ever but if she has had a hard life she may not.

How long has she been out of work?
How did the wound happen??

There are lots of good horses out there and I personally wouldn't buy one with a problem.

If you really like her I wouldn't offer more than a few hundred pounds until you know she (A) will come sound and (B) will stay sound without further veterinary treatment... How much she is worth when definitely 100% really depends on what she has done before, what she is good for now and her character etc...

i think at her age (although i personally dont think 16 is old and thatcertainly wouldnt nessacerally put me off) and with the injury, surely the people who are selling her would be delighted to be offered £500 to someone offering her a good home. She could so easily end up going to somewere less desirable. i hope you do get her

as long as she is sound she will have many years of enjoyment to come. granular wounds heal well if you cover them in manuka honey!! or the very hard to find demobian and copper sulphate for a few days. i would ask them to give you a starting price then negotiate. if tack and rugs are good and fit well then they are worth having.

Many thanks. I'm really only looking for a 'happy hacker' at the moment, so she seemed to suit the bill.

They mentioned a price of £500 but do you think offering £400 or even £350 would be reasonable?

if they mentioned 500 i dont think its unreasonable to offer a hundred or so less you can only ask

good luck to you she could be a really great bargain i think! x
