My boots/ gloves are just not upto the job! So today i have been looking at the---

Muckboot Tynes
MH Rimfrost rider
MH Ice high rider

What do you guys all wear for general mucking out and hacking? In terms of--

Footwear
Gloves
Coat/ top layer
Jods

Any advice on footwear especially appreciated!!!!!

general yard duties i love my toggi wanderer esprit wellies - neoprene lined keep my feet toastie warm.
for riding i wear mountain horse boots and toggi thick socks.
gloves i wear hunting gloves - the crochet/leather patches ones
coat - normally musto blouson

Muckboots keep you dry and toasty warm - but I don't ride in mine.

Musto snug jods are the way forward and I also have fleecey lined wax full chaps when it gets really chilly. I have a couple of feather filled jackets and some old leather gloves that are fleecey lined. I usually wear my MH steel toe caps with thermal socks..

The best way is wear layers of natural fabrics - so cotton, wool, silk - not fleece as they are synthetics and will not keep you as warm or dry out as quickly if you get wet.

Recommend a pair of long johns, I think I'm sewn into mine through the winter!!

Two pairs of socks and MH steels on the yard. Wellies and one thick, one thin pair of socks if I'm squashing around in the fields!

Cotton T_ shirt, thin jumper then Fleece, and waterproof coat.

I also have a pair of waxed chaps, great for keeping the rain off.

Gloves, I tend to loose, so grab what I can!!

My lovely OH bought me a pair of Ariat Grasmere's for my birthday recently so am hoping chilly feet will be a thing of the past :-)

Otherwise, thick cotton jods, polo-neck, T-shirt, fleece and coat and neoprene gloves for riding - though I find gloves really clumsy and don't wear them that often, or I forget to put them on and end up with chilly fingers!

Also scarf and thermal baseball cap with an earflap (not one of those spaniel jobs, just a turn down that covers your ears), it may look a bit odd but as long as I stay warm, I don't care about my lack of sartorial elegance!

i live in wooly hats, lets me get away with not brushing my hair! trapper hats or beanies
defs go with a full set of long johns, my friend works at mac wet so i get rather a few free pairs which i wear underneath a thick warm pair of gloves-if i need to take the thick pair off to do fiddly stuff my hands don't freeze

Musto Base layer top, sweatshirt, jods (when freezing, Musto Snug jods).
Quilted Barbour coat/Shires Fluorescent waterproof for hacking)
Ariat Arctics/Tuffa Suffolks for yard stuff, and Ariat Bromonts/MH Winter fusion boots for riding.
Can you tell I think I might have Reynaud's? I certainly have very poor circulation and get white feet/hands.

My top tips for keeping warm are:

Undies from Icebreaker or smart wool!!! These are made from NZ merino wool, they are mega warm, breathable, wick sweat and don't smell!!! They do long johns, long sleeve vests with a high neck and zip for the depth of winter. I have merino socks too - sooo comfey and warm.

A pair of silk glove liners are a good investment too, they will make all your other gloves warmer without adding bulk.

A buff is a brilliant investment, you will never go back to a scarf. I don't have the polar one, just the standard one but it is amazing. Summer it can keep the sun off or my hair back and winter it is scarf/hat/balaclava! You can even pull them up under your riding hat, so only your eyes can be seen.

A goretex coat is a must for me too, keeps you 100% dry whilst still being light and breathable so you don't get sweaty underneath. I have waterproof goretex overtrousers too.

Look out for sales at hiking and outdoor shops, in my experience their stuff is better quality and more up to date technology than most riding wear. The only "riding" things I buy are jodhs, riding boots and gloves. My tops, coats, socks, termals, hats scarves etc all come from outdoor shops, as do non-riding gloves.

Well I still wear my good old B&Q wellies but with my kneew length thick ski socks underneath my jods! For riding in I have mountain horse leather boots and I only find I need a normal pair of socks underneath.
I have just ordered a load of thermals from Damart to keep me going! I know how to treat myself!!

Like JNB, I have poor circulation in hands/feet. Puffa fleece gloves enable me to ride. Neoprene wellies are good for yardwork but too wide for riding. I had a cheapo pair from Derby House. Very warm, but have now started leaking. For the rest I layer up with thermal underwear, T-shirt, thin wool sweater, fleece(s) & a damn great coat on top.
