What would a judge be looking for in this class...?

Hi there

I have the Chester Racecourse Horse Show schedule in front of me and i cant decide what this class wants:

Royal London Qualifiers (Exibitors need not be a member to enter or qualify)

Open Ridden Horse
4 years old and over. Exc. 148cms.
To be ridden by judge.


The schedule looks quite posh, which is putting me off, but then it's only £8 per class. Would conformation be judged, horses untacked and trotted up, etc? Or just ridden by you, then the judge?
What sort of tack are we talking? Doubles or snaffles?
I'd love to enter Mo, but there's no way if it's gonna be out of our league!

Can anybody tell me what they think will be required?

Well im no great expert on showing but its almost guarenteed that they will judge conformation as in all showing classes and they will most probably strip and trot up again as in most showing classes. Open Ridden i would take from that any ridden horse? But obviously they will look for manners. conformation and obedience. You never know about the judge riding them. If they dont specify i would take it not. I dont think it sounds out of your league (not that i know a thing about you or you horse

LOL). Go for it. If your horse is all or some of the above youve got as good as chance as any.

I am no expert but if the judge is riding then I would assume that the horses will be stripped aswell.

If your horse goes well in a double i would say double would be better. If not than a snaffle would do. Numnah and girth to be same colour as horse and tack plain black or brown.
 
When I have judged this class I have judged it as being for any type of ridden show horse i.e. cob, hack, hunter, riding horse, then judged that horse against its "type".

If the judge rides, then you will be unlikely to do an individual show. You may well be asked to strip for conformation, but it depends on the judge.

She can go really nicely and i qualified her last week for the Shires Inter club Champs in Sept for senior equitation. The thing is though, will her previous owners she did a lot of BSJA stuff and now has windgalls on both hinds. Would that be frowned upon in an Open Ridden Horse class? Her back is also slightly dipped (she's 14).

Apart from that though, she's fine! And i know a judge wouldnt have any problems with her.
Oh, and Mo doesn't 'do' double bridles or rugby pelhams - she hates them and goes like a donkey!

I just cant decide if it would be worth entering or not. It's the stripping and trotting up that i think will let us down.

You look like you'll be absolutely fine in that class, she's a similar type to one I qualified for Royal London, you won't look out of place at all. Windgalls and a dipped back obviously aren't a good thing, but aren't the end of the world, and whether they affect your placing will depend on the judge and the other horses in your class.
 
Right, you've convinced me! I shall enter! (mainly because i wish to meet the famous Inky!!!) I'll pay on the day though - whenever i enter in advance, the weather is horrible!
