I am considering options as financially I am starting to struggle and wnat to make decisionw while I am time to do so rationally. one option would be to sell my boy - dont want to but he is 13 and I am aware that if I dont look at it now he will be getting on a bit too much. OK - 16.3 TB/ID/cob of unknown breeding, really dislikes schooling although is quite capable his attitude in the school basically sucks. Capable but lazy jumper. prob very good XC but never been brave enough to try, Very good in traffic, can be a bit spooky but never dangerous, has been known to buck when excited out cantering etc - basically quite a fun hack but not really a novice ride. will never set the world alight but is a good solid horse for the right person. would probably do quite well in local hunter classes, was treated for sarcoids 5 years ago never come back. I wouldnt be looking for that much but what sort of price would keep the idiots at bay while finding him a nice home ??

Sorry but not a lot

Reason being your description reads

Not suitable to school or jump and a bit spooky to hack

What can he do?

he won't make a good show hunter as you wouldn't be able to school him well enough

Obviuosly your description on here is an accurate and honest reflection of your boy and is not how you would write any advert for him :)

from his description, he sounds like most of our hunters tbh - can't be bothered in the school, but motivated by open fields and jumps! If he had hunted with a decent pack and was sensible, he would be worth about £3/3.5k during the season (or just before, when people are looking)

Sarcoids might put some people off, but if the price is right, most hunting people are practical and accept that no horse is perfect - it's hard enough finding a good hunter, they're prepared to put up with all sorts of issues as long as they don't affect his performance lol!

so having not hunted and with a history of sarcoids probably ask £2.5 ono maybe? ask in the hunting forum and see what response you get there :)

If you were near us, and would like him taking out at the beginning of the season for some experience, feel free to give us a shout!!

Thank you - yes that wouldnt be how I would advertise him !. I didnt say he couldnt jump - he can and has got a good jump on him just he can be a bit lazy - he is as honest as the day jumping and hardly ever stops always tries to jump it . can be a bit lazy into it but easily remedied, He is a great hack - just can be a bit looky/spooky but never does anything bad and buck a bit when excited going into canter. He has hunted and is apparently great once he gets over his excitement I just havent done it. I'm not looking to sell him for alot just enough to keep the whats wrong with it and out for a cheap horse but cant look after it brgade. He is a nice horse to have some fun, alot of people just want to hack and play at local shows; So thats what he can do. This isnt a post to see how much can I get for him - it;s the ongoing cost of keeping i'm struggling with. I just wondered where I would pitch it if I did decide to sell - I was thinking 1500 ish but had no idea if this was in the right ball park

I had my boy who was a 10 year old 16.1 Holsteiner for sale. He was good in the school and excellent to hack out, he just did NOT like jumping at all. He used to get very nervous and sharp. But on the flat her was fine and a real gent etc. I just wanted to jump and do abit more competing so we made the hard decision to sell him. :(

In the end we basically had to give him away and cut of loses in part exchange because we had no private interest or even call from an advert where i advertised him for £3000 :( The lady that took him in part exchange said she was going to advertise him as a hack/dressage horse at around £1000.

You could try advertising him at a lowish price and cutting your loses. Good luck hope he finds a nice home if you do decide to sell :)

I think you would get £1500 for him all day long, if i was looking i would be interested, it wouldnt put me off

i agree with spacefaer in general, the horse is an older low mileage solid horse which if he jumps enough, safely, will make a hunter i would keep to the positive points and ask 2500, as anyone hunting is not going to be that novice and remember no horse is perfect.
