I have a field down the road that i use in the summer, it is down a quiet country lane, but occasionally we get lorries and the odd tracter as expected,

last year I would lead hector down and my mum would take the other one but this year I will be working much earlier in the day so will have to lead them down around half 6/7 every day and my lovely mother will still be asleep

not sure how the law is on leading on a road, always lead in a bridle for control, but can i lead both together? the problems being if i take them seperatly Hector will have a hissy fit either being led down, or being left in the field on his own, dont think Jerry would be a problem though, they both lead perfectly together, just wondered what was best really, also if i lead them seperatly would have to get up unnaturally early

thanks

I dont think its safe to take them together. If one of them spokes or anything happens and you let one go, its not worth thinking about. Some thing similar happend to me a couple years ago and I lost one!
Better to let Hector have his hissy fit IMO.

Have this same problem except I need to go down a really busy road. Last year my friend would lead her horse down and I would lead mine but this year she is having treatment at hospital and so is unable. My horse goes nuts if left on her own but leading the pair of them would be a nightmare to as the constantly bicker!! I'll need to badger someone to help me or I'm stuck! I think you'll be fine to lead them together especially if the road is not that busy and at that time in the morning lol!!

cant live out 24/7 unfortuently as not enough grazing, and hector has to come in out of the flies, also need to stable H when i ride Jerry otherwise he has a wobbly (can you tell who is the trouble maker

keep them at home so no one to help

Put's pn flame suit and steps out

I think that if they'll behave better together then I'd take them together.

You get the polo people out riding and leading loads at once and since you know your two and this would be the way they are most settled I'd stick with it.

Ok if a freak accident occurs you'd be better of with just the one but then if a freak accident occurs it always gets you.

I have to walk quite a way with my two and part of the walk is down a public footpath which runs through the farm. If they broke away they would struggle to get to a road so I suppose there is not the same danger but I always take them together.

I find they are much better behaved in a pair because they calm each other and I have had a few hairy moments with joggers, dog etc but they jump and then settle whereas the single ones wind themselves up.

I think it very much depends on how well behaved your horses are, whether they have been in for a while (thus more difficult) and also the weather. Wind and rain wind them up a bit and fog is a definite no no.

I'm probably one of the windiest people going, if there's a mite of danger, I'd see or feel it!

But, if I am happy with the two horses as a rule, then I'd have no hesitation in taking them both down together rather than risk more danger by taking and then leaving them alone at some stage; far safer IMHO.
I would make a point of using bridles with a coupling (you don't need nosebands, just head and cheek pieces or slipheads) on each of them so they are easy to put on/pull off, no faffing but you still have control and are legal too - always a bonus!

i would always lead them in bridles, they are both excellent in traffic, and not silly when led, in fact Hector is better being led than ridden tbh, thought about riding and leading, not sure if i would have more contol, as hector tends not to walk when hacking(he just jogs) and little Jerry is not really ready to be ridden one handed

just walked it and is only about 200 yards down the road
