What would be the best bit?

Ive had Bear in a french link snaffle but he's getting a bit too strong on it, its when I try to slow back down from canter its quite hair raising when your coming to a dead end and have no breaks!

I was thinking about a hanging cheek or something? I want to keep him in a snaffle if I can. Ideas?

Well I've just popped a Waterford in Thumper's mouth as I was finding him quite strong when doing faster work. Kerrilli suggested it, and so far it seems to be working. We certainly had a wonderful set of brakes yesterday

Is that a harsh bit? I know you can get a waterford hanging cheek. He's only a baby so dont want nothing too harsh in his gob!!

Its not harsh it just means they can lean on it. Would try a drop french link for a slight up in strength

My sisters mare moved from a plain french link to a hanging cheek french link - worked a treat.

No - as Dianchi says, it just helps prevent them leaning and taking a hold.

Wicked thanks guys! I dont like not being in control, Yesterday we got caught in the rain on the way home and theres a galloping track that takes us to the yard gate so Bear thought he'd go as fast as he could with a HUGE buck put in too! Little sod, he goes from 100 mph to 0!!! its not good!!
