Well when i went to catch my horse today i noticed a nice big lunp on her neck, sitting just above her rug straps. Touched it and she did not seem fussed.
I took her in and removed her tug and found below the lump[not on the lump] it's all bitten away by what i presume would be flies[she had similar in summe].
The lump is quite warm[warmer than the rest of her body] and you can take it in your hand[if you understand what i mean-it's not attacked directly to her muscle or anything]
This has just appeared over night and hope it will go down just as quick..my guess is that it's a bite from another horse?
Any idea's/thoughts welcome.

Here are the pics..

look like an allergic reaction to a bite, if it isnt bothered her i would leave it 24 hours to see if it goes away

Hi
It looks like an allergic reaction - you'll probably find that the fluid drains down into her chest by the morning - don't be alarmed if this happens it's just natural drainage.

she gets really mild rubs on her tail in summer but that is all.
I'm off to check on her soon, hopefull it'll have gone down!
Thanks for the input!

I have had this on my cob after the rug he had pulled back around his chest and the cross surcingle style front strap dug in every time he put his head down- if you have a spare rug try it and see if its a better fit ( his only took 24 hours to go down once i found the problem and i replaced the front straps with buckles which meant i could still use the rug) )

Might be inflammation from the fly bites that has collected due to the rug fastening instead of dispersing, try leaving the rug off or change for one that fastens either higher or lower, maybe that would help?

Yesterday about 40% of the fluid in the lump has drained down to the bitten area-may end up coming out of the cut, i dont know yet.
I would love to take her rug off but unforetuneately she's just had a full clip last weekend and lives out!
The temperature appeasrs to have dropped so she might be getting a different rug on which might make a difference.
