If i wanted to enter Hovis is a ridden heavy horse class (showing)?
what would we have to do?
what would he have to be turned out like?
what would i have to wear?

Any ideas as I've not got a clue?!!

Do you have a show in mind if so i would just drop an email to the secetery or organisation and just explain that this will be your first time can they help.

What breed is he? Does he have a mane, or is it hogged? It he were mine, and had a thick mane, I would consider hogging (especially if difficult to control!) and pull the top of his tail. Feathers I would keep if long, but again if untidy, I would consider clipping too!

I would put him in snaffle bridle or double (if he is ok with it) and basic GP saddle, with no numnah, or a very discreet one, in black with black girth if he is brown/black or white if he is a light colour.

I would wear hacking jacket, stock, cream jods, matching velvet on hat, matching gloves and show cane, with long boots/boots and gaiters.

This could be wrong, but this is how I would go!!

*awaits grilling from showing professionals*

He's a clydie cross (although crossed with what we have no idea!!)
He's currently very feathery and has a full mane.
He's ridden in a pelham with roundings and his tack is dark brown.
Its only a local thing but i have never done any showing before so i've not got a cue!
If it wasn't a class specifically for heavy horses i probably wouldn't do it!
So all help gratefully recieved!

Depends on level (riding club/local/county) & your budget.

I'd agree with contacting the secretary first.

We've just taken Dolly to her first show & this is what we wore -as it's what we had.
Class = Ridden hunter / Level = RC local show
Dolly -Plaited, feathers kept (should have taken them off), snaffle bit, libbys synthetic bridle (cant afford custom made leather), Ideal WH saddle (this is her normal saddle)
Me -Navy show jacket (should have been tweed, but dont own one), shirt & tie, blue hat to match.

At this level, the faux-pas were overlooked.
Have a great time & make sure you send your entry in early, because you cant talk yourself out of it.

Just read your update,
Keep your feathers (Hovis I mean) & full mane.

2 reins for a pelham.

Small numnah that fits the outline of the saddle or none at all, make sure the colour matches the tack if you are keeping it.

Not sure about the type of jacket for you, I'd guess on a tweed.

A lot of RC shows have a cob type class which I guess he would be ideal for. You have to walk, trot and canter as a class on either and generally do an individual show which should basically be walk, trot and canter on either rein.

As someone suggested, I would put double reins on your pelham, leave feathers and mane (if you want the traditional look), discreet numnah, tweed jacket, collar and tie for yourself.

Good luck!

Tell Hovis he has to wear lots of pretty pink ribbons in his mane. Should make his day
