Purchasing a new leather bridle, got my new bridle today! Picked it up from its packaging and the leather is very sticky, and black comes off onto my hands. Do i need to oil it, is there any home made products which I can use! Thanks

Not too sure why it's sticky but I always oil new leather, it's certainly highly recommended. No idea about home-made products...

Never had that happen but then its a long time since I bought a new bridle. I remember mine feeling 'waxy'. Apparantly black leather is dyed but brown isnt so it looks like the black dye is coming off. Is it a good make or a cheaper one. Id be inclined to take it back if it was an expensive one.

From the sounds of your first post, it sounds like it needs a good wipe with a damp cloth, then a soaping. If it is waxy, then it shouldn`t leave anything on your hands, but also a good wipe as above. I don`t oil new leather as some oils can damage the stitching so I always use saddle soap as this softens and cares for your tack too.
