I keep my boy, Archie, on an idyllic farm location. I rent a stable and have my own paddock. The riding is glorious and very safe. We have no facilities, which doesn't bother me too much as I am very much a happy hacker.
Archie lives out 24/7/365 and his field on one side is next to two ponies. Archie is particularly fond of one of them and when it leaves its field or goes out of sight he gets all wound up and paces and paces. He sweats up and will not settle until its return. Its not too bad this weather but in the winter when he is rugged he gets sweaty from running about and then when pony returns he is sopping wet. He wears a breathable Rambo. Also, he churns a path up and down the field.
I have asked whether I could move fields but am unable to. I looked into getting a companion but would have to pay an extra £10 per week to keep it in my field and just don't want to stretch my finances any more. It doesn't stop there, does it, a comapnion would need TLC and attention (well, I would expect to give it this anyway), farrier, feed, vaccs ... so not really an option.
He is only like it with this particuar pony. He has other ponies on the other side of his field who can come and go and it doesn't bother him.
I really, really don't want to move as, most of the time, he is so happy, its just when next door pony is removed. Its owner works, I work too so we can't even time it that we are there at the same time.
Any suggestions? Shall I just let him get on with it?
Many thanks
