I bought a 15" saddle a while ago, actually was from a member on here. It was a wintec saddle. Needed it for back and breaking my then 13hh short backed pony. Fitted perfectly. Also used on a 12.1hh pony for a 7 year old girl just out of cub saddle. I'm only 5'2 and very petite and my bum only just fitted in it at a push!
Fast forward and pony goes on loan to 13 year old slight built girl with the saddle. Decide they want a nice leather one fitted to pony now. Saddler comes out and says the 15" saddle is too small for rider as it is a kids saddle and so manages to fit a 16" to both pony and rider. End result is a bigger looking saddle which loaners bum fits in comfortably.

I recently advertised and sold this saddle on as a 15". Person who bought it then say it is not 15" but 16" and tells me her saddler has confirmed this. I have had a 16" wintec saddle which was bigger then the diddy one I have just sold. I do not believe for one minute that it's 16"! Buyer wants a full refund and to send saddle back. But this cost me in postage and PayPal fees. What would you do?

Ask the buyer to send a photo of how they are measuring the saddle, so you can see the inches and if they are measuring it correctly.

Thank you. How is the correct way of measuring it, do you know? Also, I think wintecs are measured in cms? Most have a sticker on the stirrup bar stating the size in cms but this sticker was removed before it came to me.

From the point where the stud is on the saddle to the centre of the cantle at the back - as a note, I recently bought an Ideal saddle from ebay which was advertised as 16.5" - when I got it, it looked diddy....I ride my other horse in a 17" and it just looked so much smaller that I contacted the seller about it. However strangely I fitted in it fine and it fit the pony perfectly. I then got a saddler out to check it was ok and he confirmed it was a 16.5" - however it had such a cut back head and was a shallow Working Hunter style that it looked tiny compared to my Bates 17". But it's definitely as the seller said, a 16.5" - I would ask them how they are measuring it. Good luck!

Without being funny, if you don't know how to measure a saddle correctly how can you be certain of the size of the saddle you sold?

An awful lot of people have no idea how to measure a saddle. I've bought a few saddles lately and not one of them was the size it was supposed to be.

I am also wondering how someone can be sure they know saddle size if they've not measured it and it had no label?
Saddles without cut back head are measured from front edge of pommel to back edge of cantle keeping tape measure straight and taut.
With a cut back head you use the metal stud either side of pommel back to cantle.

As others have said on the thread - get the measure from the front stud to back of cantle. If you are not sure post the picture on here for comments

As far as I know you always measure nail head to cantle, the cutback to cantle measurement is only ever provided as a bonus and that can be for any saddle. Ours have no cutback usually (or 1/4) but are measured from the nail head/stud.
