I have broken in many horses, brought them on, schooled them, BSJA, and completed pre-novice events etc. I am confident in my knowledge of horses to be able to do this. I now have a beautiful filly who to date hasn't put a foot wrong. She is working well in saddle and bridle, has been backed (literally in walk on a lead rope) and posed no problems.
However, and I know this is MY problem not hers, I am now worried about taking her steps further as I have gotten into my head I will ruin her. The last few horses I have had the first one kept rearing and going over backwards on me and the next one I was breaking just broncked me off continuously. In all honesty i think me confidence has gone somewhat. I've been riding other horses, some difficult, some not, without a problem but I am worried with my mare I will ruin her by trying to bring her on and facing a problem I cannot get over. My mare has never give me any sign she will be difficult and her ground work is very well established. She really needs breaking and bringing on now. My question is - would you send her away to be brought on or should I crack on, do it myself and get over my worries?

I think perhaps that you should just keep going steadily as you already are. If you take it at your own pace you will know if there are going to be problems before they happen.

Have faith and confidence in yourself, you probably just had a couple of horses with problems. If its not broke don't fix it. I would make sure I have someone v v knowledgeable on the ground and just keep doing what you are doing, reason for this, they can see what you can't feel, make sure you have total faith in this person, believe me it helps. Youngsters don't normally have problems. If a problem should occur, which I doubt, first get back and saddle checked by a reputable person, then go back to training regium, and forget you had a problem. If the problem has not gone, then get teeth checked again by a reputable person. Always get reputable person recommended from your vet. In fact I always consult my vet over the phone first or take horse to him then follow his advice, DO NOT GO WITH ADVICE FROM ANYONE ELSE OR YOU MAY INCUR MORE PROBLEMS THAN YOU NEED TOO.
