... you got to the yard to find that your horse had been left without any water!

Baring in mind I am paying a rather large sum of money for what is supposed to be five star full livery.

I am NOT best pleased to say the least.

Consider moving yards - I see your in the East Midlands, dare I ask what yard (PM?)? :)
But seriously, talk to the yard owner/head groom or yard manager and explain how incredibly unhappy you are as if you had not come up you dont know how long that could have gone un-noticed for. Its not on at all, when I was at uni and the auto waters froze up I insisted on them putting in buckets of water and making sure they were always full. Fortunatley I was up daily though so could always keep an eye on them.
Forgot to say I used to be in the east midlands hence interest!

Its not acceptable really, although the other day i mucked out a 1 oclock left pony in and when i came back at half4 id done my ponies water but left the bucket under the tap:o ooops. And it was a genuine mistake i must have just totally forgot!!! So sometimes its just been human. It depends on the reaction really, if they did it by accident and apoligise profusly, i wouldnt be as bothered. We are all human at the end of the day.

Move, I did. I arrived at a well known Equestrian Centre, which also schooled horses, where Cappy was being trained, to find he had worked hard and been left in his stable without water and food and the sweat drying on him. We left.

For every time you see it , how many times does it happen that you don't?
I love my YO and her yard because we turn up at all sorts of times and my horses are always as I would wish to find them. Find somewhere you can trust, it is worth its weight in gold.

I would be having stern words with the YM. This is why I am on DIY really, everyone I know who pays for livery finds that at some point their horse gets forgotten about.

It is normal for people to make mistakes at work, I know I do. This is why you need to talk to the YM, as it is their responsibility to make sure that if someone makes a mistake (eg forgets to water horse) there is someone else who will notice this and sort it out (should be a routine that at regular intervals throughout the day and last thing, someone checks to make sure that all horses have what they need and are healthy). It is not rocket science.

Tbh, I have been thinking about moving for a while now... it seems to one thing after another. Yes it could be a genuine mistake, but if I had not gone up to the yard tonight, he would have been without water all night. :( I go up everyday without fail anyway because I can't even trust them to give him enough hay for the evening (it's all gone by 6pm)

Oh well by the sounds of it there not doing there job properly, as they must have not dont the water at mucking out time or checked at finishing up time, doesnt sound like a slip of the mind to me? If your paying for full livery and having to go up every day thats stupid!!!! You need to be able to trust the people that have the care of your horse. If i were you i woulf find a new yard. I would still tell the YM that your horse had no water and also the hay situation, your paying for a service and not recieving it.

Don't worry, I will be making it very clear tomorrow that I am not happy about him not having water. I have mentioned them running out of hay but am told they get more later but I have heard from the other liveries that the man who lives onsite and does it, doesn't always come every night if he is going out... so now I make sure I definitely give him plenty before I leave. (And I'm not even supposed to be allowed to help myself to hay!! )

Oh well if they gave him enough hay you wouldnt have to top it up!!!! Your paying for it at the end of the day! You wouldnt got to tescos buy food then leave it there so why should you put up with it for your horse.
Thing is genuine mistakes can happen we are all human but when its happening on a daily basis its laziness in my mind!!!!
