I just dont know what to do for the best. I have had my horse for roughly two years she is on loan to me from a friend so no proper contract, with view to buy. Back in march horsey went lame, cut a long story short after box rest, xrays etc she was diagnosed with pedal osteitis, now she is sound (but how long for nobody knows) hope to start riding her soon, thing is now she has come sound do i give her back, or keep her and see how things go (vet obviously couldnt give me def answers on if she could break down in future) the mare was also being schooled up for jumping. I have got plenty of insurance left on her but just feel confused on what i should do. On top of this i sort of have been offered another horse and the thing is i cant keep three as my daughter has her ponio as well. My friend has already commented on you wont want to buy her now but we havnt really spoke about it much i feel she thinks if we dont talk about it, it may go away. Anyway sorry for my ramblings any advice.

It's difficult as you say because the owner is a friend. Probably the first thing I would do would be forget about jumping, the strains involved are likely to bring it all on again. You either keep the loan horse & will be unable to do what you want to with her & keep paying out for her keep or return her & take on the new one which hasn't got the problems.

It cost just as much to keep an injured horse as it does a fit one...sometimes even more......as I say a difficult decision made all the more difficult as she belongs to a friend. Your decision I'm afraid

this is why you should always get a contract.

if it was me personally i would not consider jumping this mare again so if you are happy doing flatwork and hacking keep her but if it was me as i love my jumping i would send her back.

so my only advice would be weigh up the pro and cons of keeping the mare or getting shot.
