What would you do in my situation?

Ok, so my horse is in need of schooling, mainly to fitten him up and get him working properly, he's extremely strong and I'm hoping some schooling will help with his strength, I know he will always be strong though, he used to be an ex racing pacer, so it's just in him, but of course we can contain this somewhat ;)
I want to get him to some shows this summer, so schooling and then jumping is what I'm aiming for!

Anyway my choices;
A: send him away for 6 weeks to be reschooled by a professional, she's a friend so the price isn't extortion, but not cheap!

b; school him myself ( I can ride am very experienced so I don't doubt my ability, what I dont have is a school or time every day so I make do in a field etc) and have 1 lesson a week with a local riding school, but hack him there.

Thoughts please? X
But my mum and I have come to an agreement and she can have my daughter certain days so it would be I can school him 3-4 times a week.

I think that if you have the confidence, ability and the time, with your mum looking after your daughter, then you should school him yourself. The only problem is your lack of school, would you use the one you hire for your lessons?

I think this because you might feel bad watching your friend school him, knowing that you'd really like to be able to do it yourself. This is just my opinion though!

Can you send him to the pro but continue to have lessons during the reschooling time/at least observe the training sessions. I think if you can remain involved in the reschooling it could be your best bet :) Sometimes they do really need consistent work for a few weeks which I appreciate is difficult.

There's nothing wrong in using a field at all, they're a reasonably new fangled idea for non-professional yards so not essential, just nice to have if you can afford one and if you have the ability I'd do it yourself and maybe put the money you save towards some decent lessons together. I think you'd get much more pleasure doing it yourself.

I would school him myself. 3-4 times per week is more than enough. As for having a school, its not the end of the world. If there are any local open spaces near you, its great to use those occasionally, so you don't churn your own field up too much, and it gives him something different to think about, which will stand you in good stead at shows. Also I know many people who have taught me have used verges and hacking for schooling purposes.

I have done this and it was great opportunity for me, but maybe you could ask her to work him 3 days and you do 4 days or something, and may work out a bit cheaper, but help you progress quicker as well.
