Well after my horse has been a champion for the last couple of months, i got to the stables yesterday after work and as i went to put on his turnout rug i noticed he'd taken a chunk of fur and skin off his hind leg! Its about 4 inches long and about 1cm wide but looked quite sore. I think he must have literally only just done it as i'd got there as it looked very fresh and it was only slightly swollen around the area and he was walking on it ok. So i attempted to bandage it but as its high up on his hind leg it stayed on for about 8 seconds before sliding down so i sprayed it with steroid cream (much to his horror!) and then covered it in - probably too much - anti-bacterial cream. I left him in but checked his stable and couldnt see anything which he could of done it on but left him in.
Went back at 9pm and his first few steps were a bit stiff but was ok walking on it and turning etc. Didnt want to trot him up as didnt think it would help him but i will do tonight. I banaged him up and used that plaster tape to stick it to his fur to stop it moving - seemed to work anyway!
Went there this morning and he was happy enough on it so i re bandaged it, the one had slid down but i think it had only just came down as the wound was still clean so popped another one on and put him out in his field, he trotted off down the end and he looked ok trotting - but it was quite dark!!
What would you of done? Anything different? How long will it take for his skin to cover it again? x I have big event on Saturday, do you think i'd be ok to take him - assuming he's ok tonight?
I have a picture if it helps?
Thanks in advance!!
