Right,
Tara currently has £222 notional prize money. Therefore, we are still in newcomers (£300).
So far we have jumped 2 newcomers- she had one unlucky pole in both classes.
She will almost deffinately never be good enough to jump foxhunter. She is honest enough but just doesn't have the scope.
Basically I am posting to find out what you would do- carry on trying at newcomers, or just go and have fun and win lots of money in 1m open classes? I really enjoy jumping the smaller classes, but I don't want to win too much money so I can't do newcomers cos I really enjoy jumping bigger too- but then again most places have 1.10m opens..
but then again it would look better when we come to sell her (end of this year) if she has 4 double clears newcomers.. but then again she might never get 4 d/c newcomers..
so i don't really know what to do- what would you do?

What a shame you'll be selling her, you two sound well matched!!

I have no idea what the right answer to your question is though!

I know, I did say to mum that it is going to be virtually impossible to find another horse who I gell with like her, but she doesn't have the scope to go higher than novice BE (and that would be at a push- we will see how this season goes..!), and I would like to do some big stuff next year

TBH - I'd have fun! If you aren't targetting her specifically at SJ then she'll sell well as a teenagers horse (pick me

) if she's reliable at 1m/1.05m. She sounds fairly versatile

personally,i would try and get the newcomers dcs. if you keep up with lessons/training, you should be able to get them, im in a similar situation. i have a horse that doesnt try over disc and newc, and i need my dcs, but i am going to keep trying, but then my mare is very green and needs the ring experiance. and she has plenty of scope to go bigger.

i would keep on with the newcomers, then once you get them you can go have fun and win money round other classes

good luck with whatever you doooo!!!

I would just keep on having fun using her as a small open diesel money horse, you've clicked so well with her. No point chasing the d/cs if shes unable to jump any higher, IMO the d/c thing is for pros pushing youngsters up the ladder, mere mortals dont make it!

Id probably try to get the NC double clears but only if you think she's capable of the height (remembering JO's can be 1.15). Then Id just play about with whatever classes she's happiest with so if she's best at 1m classes, do those.

TBH though do you have aspirations for higher classes? You may get bored staying at 1m classes forever?

I wouldnt get your 4 double clears as she isnt going to be able to do the second rounds is she ??

Agreed - I would concentrate on the Amateur classes and have some fun!

You have small Newcomers, round here the JO is always 1.20 and sometimes 1.25 depending on the course builder.

I would just jump and have fun.

If you are selling her PC the only problem we've had is if you win more than £500 in a year the horse can't do the PC teams, put a lot of people off.

Yer a JA or Grade A horse can jump on teams as long as it does not win £500 in a season... not in total so a old JA with £1000 on its card but only won £100 that season can jump in Open teams

LOL!

I was gonna say the same thing...well they're always 1.20m anyways...

Either way, if the horse hasn't got the scope to do Foxhunters then there's bu99er all point in chasing the DC's as the second rounds wll end up bigger than a Fox JO in the final round (nearer 1.35m / 1.40m).

Stick to your 1.05m and 1.10m opens and the 1m Am and 1.10m Am classes...and enjoy it

Thanks guys-
I think we are going to just do what we like with her now- carry on jumping newcomers while I can, but not going to worry about jumping smaller opens and winning too much money.
Yeah, I do love the thrill of jumping bigger tracks so I will still do the bigger opens even when I jump out of nc, but I would love to just go out and win small opens for a bit of fun too
tongue.gif

I dont think we need to worry about the £500 rule, as we have only won £35 this season so far
grin.gif

We have got through to the jump off of a newcomers and she had one fence down, so I guess she does have a bit of scope, but I couldn't imagine her ever jumping a foxhunter jump off- well not with me on anyway, she needs a good rider over bigger fences to set her up more, I just let her sort herself out

Go for amateur classes, you will then put on notional at a much slower rate, avoid opens for the same reason.

Would a few lessons get you two together for 1.20 rounds?
