Well, have been looking at options recently about returning to Sussex... I have had various job offers down that way, and am starting to think about "going home".

I do not want to leave Suffolk - everything is much cheaper here, for one, but also I have made a lot of friends, have a farrier and a vet that I trust, and have built up a life here.

However, I do miss Sussex, and things keep pulling me back that way. I really do not know what to do!

I sent a text earlier to a very good friend of mine, who has ridden internationally and who has been my mentor for the last ten years. She replied, offering me stables for (some of) my horses, training and a job. I have worked for her before, I know the yard, and most of the horses and owners, and the yard is amazing.

I keep thinking should I move down there for a few months, get as settled as I can, and find places for my other horses to follow on at a later date...? Or should I just decide against the whole thing, stay where I am, and sort things out up here.

Either way I have to find some land/a yard to rent as I need to move my horses away from where they are now before October (at the latest).

I just don't know what to do!!!

From what you have said you are happy in Suffolk and the only thing on the horizon is a move for the horses.

The things i would consider,

things are cheaper which presumably means you can do more with your horses.

Personally I would never work with a friend as things can go pear shaped and then in this scenario you would have to find a new job and place for the horses.

When you work with other peoples horses you rarely have time for your own. You say she has space for some of yours so you would have to find accomodation and trvel time to the others,

I think for me it seems you are not unhappy enough to move and other than ' missing' sussex there is no real reason to go back.

A tricky one. Good luck

Speaking as somebody that 'left' home in Surrey many years ago, I think I can understand you a bit.

Surrey was home and always will be even though I have lived up here for the last 40 years - did I really write 40, sad to say it is right!

I still love it down there but wouldn't be able to survive there at all and having several horses in tow is not going to make things easy for you either, even with a job to go to.

In my case, going back (before we were married) wasn't practical, even if I had wanted to because of the higher costs of living down there. So I think it might be an idea to really sort your options out in Suffolk; be totally practical, don't let the love of all things Sussex and the grass is always greener attitude rule you, because that won't keep body and soul together.

Good luck with what you decide to do though, it's a very hard decision to make especially when to a certain extent, it sounds as if it's been forced on you and you just want to get something settled as soon as possible to get out of your present situation.
