Last night, I managed to catch my foot on a hose in the dark and wrenched my leg. This morning when I rode, my sciatic nerve was distinctly complain-y...

Supposed to be going hunting tomorrow - and I really want to go - just a bit concerned that it may not be the smartest thing to go if I'm already in pain. Going to pop some anti-inflammatories today, but am a bit  about what to do...

I don't have my own transport, so either way, I need to let my horsebox person know what I'm doing. Aaaaaargh.

Over-stretched my sciatic nerve last year....bl**dy agony....loads of anti-inflams and pain relief (which did very little) and no way I would have got in the saddle like it, let alone hunt, I would have been a danger to myself and others!

Problem was that when I did it I was in pain but felt ok to go to work. In and out of the car all day it got worse and worse till I had to crawl in to the house when I got home and Doctor was called out. It can get progressively worse! I reckon you need to make a decision tonight and be honest with yourself for your own and others sakes.

Well it would depend on how sensible the horse is and what kind of day its likely to be (i.e how much stress I might put on my leg).

If it were me and it was going to be a quiet-ish day, I'd go and see how it went, but then I have my own transport so could leave if it is too bad?

Also you may want to wait and see how you feel when the anti inflammatories kick in?

VoR, I think you're right. I just need enough people to say 'woman, NO! this is madness'.

I can always go on foot and watch them set off...it's just the forecast looks lovely and I had been getting excited about it all week :(

Horsebox is cancelled, I shall be going on a very gentle pootle instead tomorrow and my hipflask* might come along for company...

She who fights and runs away, may live to fight another day ;)

Now see, I would hunt but it's pretty much permanent for me so if you think it will improve if you have a week off then don't!

It's probable that about 15 months ago I fractured something in my lumbar region, I was suffering but didn't get it checked out - like us all I guess, too busy doing horse things & felt daft going to get a bad back checked!

Anyway, long story short I now have a slipped disc due to it all healing a bit wonky & recently I have had real problems with it. I went hunting 2 days after some serious treatment on it despite the fact it made me very lame and I couldn't bend at all.

My horse & I are regular hunters so I thought we would be fine and I would just go for half a day & take it easy. Getting on was interesting, walking to the meet & socialising for half an hour was perfectly do-able, extended trot away from the meet before a buck and a canter up the road was NOT do-able and half an hour later we were back at the trailer :(

I would agree with leaving it a week or two, if it's not comfortable for you it's not comfortable for your horse either.

The earlier good treatment is given the quicker it heals and the less future trouble. Had a horse jump onto my foot, went foot following cubbing next evening..so ,I limp?So what? Oh boy,bad decision.Terrible sciatica, tried epidural injections (£1000) and finally after months went where should have been next port of call when it first happened.Had a couple of fit blokes do some sort of crunch manouvre, almighty crack..and walked out fifty per cent sounder.Another crunch some days later, with exercises to follow up..100% sound.
Ignore good advice if you wish, but no moaning please in a few months time:D:D

Didn't go in the end, but am mentally marking up my meet card for the next opportunity...

Leg much happier and had some nice hacks in this glorious sunny weather.
