what would you do? *video*

Stopped screaming and got the other horses out of the arena as quiet as possible. And just let the horse calm himself down, with less noise it wouldn't have taken so long

Not watched all of it but my initial thought was why didn't they get all the other horses out of the arena asap, it was causing absolute carnage knocking others over etc.

o dear... i do hope the horse at the end lying down was alright... the men trying to stop it were obviously total nutters, no way it was going to stop with them shouting and waving at it like that...

Bloody hell

, in hind site I would have tried to get everyone out of the arena asap and let the horse run itself until tired, I dont think everyone running around flapping their arms about helped, but obviously it's easy to come up with ideas after the event

Stop the morons from screaming! Get others horses out asap. I have never seen a pleasure driving class before, so much for the pleasure! don't horses like this? seems not.

Right I am no expert, so please don't get stroppy with me if you think I am wrong!, but when the first horse bolted I think other horses and people should have been led calmly out of the arena.

I can understand why the lady was shouting "keep him on the outside track", but it looked like it was freakng the horse out even more by being chased to the outside track.

So I think I would have asked other people and horses to be led out of the arena and keep minimal staff in the arena just to wait for the horse to calm down.

I replied in the SB. Still can't believe people's stupidity though... There was a related link after that somewhere about a horse that got stuck up the stairs of a multi storey building..Honestly, some people shouldn't be allowed to own horses!

Why would you try and catch a horse in that state?? yes get everyone else out of the way, either out of the ring or to the centre of it, and then keep quiet!!!!!
Surely most of the harm was done by people trying to jump out on him.
Of course you don't know how you would react until you were in that predicament but.....
Softly softly, catchy monkey

i'd have taken everything else out of the arena and then let him burn himself out! What idiots!

[/ QUOTE ] What with,a helicopter??. If they had tried to get the other horses out ,the loosehorse would have chased after them and smashed into them in the doorway. It was just a ghastly accident.

Gosh, that looked horrible. I would have tried to get the other horses out and some of the people, though that may have been impossible as the horse would have tried to escape.
Also he has blinkers on doesnt he? so he may not have been able to see everything coming to him, like all the stupid men running at him.
Everybody should have tried to stay calm keep the horses calm, and maybe even take their carts off them so they didnt have another accident (which they did).

AND STOP PEOPLE RUNNING AT HIM, they should have just left him and have one person talking calmly to him "woooah, thats it, good boy" sort of thing. he would have slowed down and then could have caught him. but running and chasing and lunging at him, not good!

x

This is total chaos!! If you're a scared horse running for your life, if a crazy man shouting and waving his arms jumps in front of you you're not going to think 'oh good i'm safe now' and stop are you! It's just going to scare him more, which it obviously did. I really hope that one at the end is ok. I don't have sound at work, did it say at all what happened to him? I think I would've got all the other horses to the middle, as some people have said taking them out might have allowed the running horse to escape. If everyone went to the middle and stood quietly and calmly then horse would've realised in the end it was running from nothing. Though as has also been said, hindsight is a wonderful thing!

What a bunch of idiots.
I'd have unharnessed the other horses asap, got everyone into the middle as much out of the way as possible and let it calm down- Stupid people getting knocked over- so dangerous

What a total F**K up

I was nearly crying.

Firstly Why in the hell did the other people not take off the carts to the other horses might of helped a little.(rather have horses running around than god damned horse and cart)

secondly there is no hope in hell you are going to stop a panic stricken horse who is [****] scared and obviously running blind in to things.

thirdly i think the only way to stop that horse was probably exactly what they did.

And to let it tire its self out i think it would of ended up dying of exhaustion.

That was a horrible thing to happen

OMFG!

I would have got everyone in the middle, kept quiet and calm, and let him canter round the outside track until he calmed down. I wouldn't have even attempted to catch him until he'd reached a standstill or at the very least a calm walk- which probably wouldn't have taken THAT long if people hadn't been running at him and making the whole thing a hundred times worse!!!!

If I'd had a horse in the arena I'd have been removing the cart sharpish as soon as I realised idiots were chasing the poor thing in all directions, definitely after the second horse was set off!

Idiots! Also WHY did the second horse have to be pinned to the ground once caught????? They had caught it so why not let it up to it's feet and lead it round to cool off???? Unless they could see that it had sustained some dreadful injury that required it to be immobilised I see no reason to pin it like that??????

The lady on the tannoy seemed to have the right idea, shame people didn't listen!

i was wondering why they left the other horses harnessed and some people still sitting in carriages?

surely a terrified horse will seek comfort form a'herd' i.e. a group of horses, hence why it keepscoming in, leading the horses and people out and letting the horse calm would have worked better then lunging at the horse.

It's ridiculous this video, I've seen this before. It's basically a "what not to do" lesson!

1) Get all the other horses out of the ring ASAP, but do it one by one and quietly so as not to let the loose horse follow. I know if my horse was in that ring I would get it out of harms way immediately!
2) Don't scream and shout
3) Don't wave your arms and run around and especially don't try and catch the horse by standing right in front of it where it cannot see you...
4) Don't merrily sit on your ass in a chair watching this chaos and then wonder why you get flattened
