I've owned my lad for nearly 2 years & took him on with every intention of him being with me for life.
However we just dont seem to have clicked like i have with other horses previously.
He's lovely dont get me wrong and most of his issues like his headshaking and napping when out alone i can cope with.
However i now have no one to hack out with regularly, neither of us are enjoying schooling, hacking is so traumatic he shakes and sweats

He just doesn't have any confidence, show's are out of the question for us. i really dont want to give up on him he's been passed round loads and i really dont want to let him down...
Anyone have any thoughts? I cant afford 2 which is a shame..
I'm pretty sure no one would want to buy him either!!!

Oh dear ((HUGS)) for you.

If your not happy and he's clearly not happy then why put yourself and him through an unhappy experience. I'm sure you could find him a nice home where someone can hack him out with others and build his confidence and you could find something more suitable. I know its a hard decision but you have to do whats right for both of you and if it isnt working after 2 years then ....

There is definitely no shame in admitting you simply arent the right match. You just need to decide, and get going on finding him the right home for the sake of you both, then get something you can build your confidence with and have fun on!
 
How about loaning him out if you are worried about him being passed out he sounds similar to mine but i am fortunate to have another, maybe hes just not suitabel to be ridden any more
 
How about moving to a new yard with new people making a fresh start, give you some hacking company, also maybe try more fun stuff in the school, put some cones out and play barrel racing or in out of cones and a couple of jumps, handy pony course, anything to make his time in the school fun for both of you, friend of mine has taken to Parreli again with hers and both loving it.
 
I do believe it that saying there is someone for everyone, works with horses and owners too imo.
I reckon you could find him a perfectly suitable home and find yourself a more suitable horsey.
Good on you for admitting it's not right, its not always easy to do.
I think horses are far too expensive and lots of hard work to not be having the relationship you want with them, and getting things out of the ownership you would like

he's a 14.3hh purebred arab, he's great with farrier, in stable and out, never kicked, bitten, bucked or reared, absolute sweety, but .... he headshakes in summer (its a pollen allergy, controlling at the mo with net and piriton) he wont stand to be mounted and is funny about having his saddle on, think previously had ill fitting tack, nappy when out alone, so much so his heart races and he sweats loads, just cant seem to get his confidence up, no matter how confident i am or how much i try and desensitise him in the school, therefore no good for pleasure rides/endurance. spooky and nervy in company, not keen on anything bigger than a car. got a brill jump in him, but lacks experience, i have been working with him for last few months since we moved an i got my school and jumps and he's getting better. bad to load into trailer, takes up to an hour, travels fairly well but again sweats up majorly so u can do nothing with him when u offload.
have been told he's ok in lorry by previous owners but struggling to find access to one to practice this.
All of the bad points above make me think no one would want to buy him or loan him!
Silly thing is after typing all the reasons why he's so wrong for me, i still love him!!!

You are daft! My family and I take on ponies like your horse...we even took a 16.3hh who I don't work with as she's too big for me but she sounds pretty much like your boy but bigger and my cousin has her on loan now and she is brilliant for him.

There are plenty of people out there who enjoy a challenge so if you aren't clicking and your bond is suffering sale isn't an impossibility. You deserve a horse that you enjoy and he deserves someone who can sort him out (thats not a put down xx).

So if you need to sell him to get where you want their are people like me out there xxxx
