Has anyone here ever rescued a pony/horse or been part of any rescue where the said pony was taken/put in to a welfare center?
Anyone phoned rspca/ILPH about a mistreated horse?
Reason I ask is this;
A few yards down the road from my house is a field (about 2/3 acres) and in it is 2 horses. Tuppence is a 13hh black 'heinz' stocky type and Fly is about 15.2hh, trotter. I know this because I used to speak to their owner. About 7 years ago, at his peak of looking great and being well cared for, I broke Tuppence in. He would have been a cracking pony, but since I broke him, and his owners ex rode him for about 6 months, he has done nothing.
His now companion Fly arrived about 2 years ago. Sat in said field every since. I doubt they have been wormed, doubt they have a passport and have had their feet trimmed once when someone else reported them. (They were and are now again curling up). Tuppence has been crippled with lami, but seems ok now - although you never know what damage has been done.
To add to this, this owner died 3 weeks ago and his son is so say looking after them. Can't see it happening myself - they haven't been touched in months!! I did talk to the son, and sent my condolences but also said if there was anything I could do to help, then iam more than happy as I know many lovely people who can take on Tups and Fly. (Tups is a rig) So far, that has fallen on deaf ears - so now what do I do? Do I interfere again myself - through RSPCA (what will they do?) I have spoken to the Mare and Foal sanctuary as I had a pony on loan from them, they said they would help if there was evidence of mistreatment? Ideas and thoughts on this most welcome. I know its not a great time for the son, but animal welfare should be a priority - right??
