What would you in this situation? A local show jumper that is a friend of a friend has a horse for sale who is 6 – been jumping 1m20 at the moment but not careful enough to be a pure show jumper. It was up for sale for £8k had a 5 stage vetting. It passed on flexion tests but failed on trotting on a tight circle. Apparently, the vet said at the time that it would need some remedial shoeing to fix the situation. The buyers walked away as they wanted him to go to Novice + eventing and didn’t want to take the risk. This was told to my friend by the SJs before I was involved.
I was told about the horse – The SJs don’t want to keep him over the winter as want to concentrate on their other horses. I went to try him and really liked him. Have offered then £2.5k and they are happy with that as they know I would give him a home for life and he is such a friendly chap that they think he should have a nice life.
Now, question is…would you get him vetted again? He was only done 3 weeks ago so am tempted not to bother as it’s just repeating what has already been done. Although it is relying on the fact that I am being told the truth which as they are long standing friends of my friend I have no reason to believe otherwise. I only want him for RC ODEs and possibly up to Pre-novice if I get around to it and a bit of hunting…and to have him as my pet.
So, would you pay for 5 stage vetting again to get same result, go with 2 stage just to confirm that the basics are all ok or trust you instincts that you are getting a lovely horse that needs some better shoeing at a bargain price.

If he's easily fixed with better shoeing then surely the present owners would sort it out rather than lose such alot of money ?
I think you need to be very careful, that's a huge drop in price.
