The time has come for my youngster to start his training to go under saddle! He has started ground work already at home with the help of a local RA in terms of long-lining, walks out, bitting and saddling.

He has been well prepared for all this and he is taking it all in his stride. We have an hour once a week or once a fortnight (depending on when we are both available) with the RA and then fill in the gaps throughout the week, although he is a very good boy and we have had to leave his work for 2 weeks and he picked up again where we left off with no fuss. The RA does ride western so she understands the makings of a western horse.

I really think he will be easy enough to start at home, I've known him since he was a month old and owned him since he was 4 months old, so I know his character very well. However, I plan to eventually use him for reining (I was an english rider who got into western) after we have both had plenty of lessons, of course this means lots of training on his part as well as mine. My question is, in my shoes, would you:

A) Continue as normal and back him slowly at home this year, then send him for training next year?

B) Just wait until next year or over the winter after our wedding (late summer) and send him for one long block of training?

C) Back him slowly at home this year, then find very good instruction and progress together?

Time is no worry for me, I just want to enjoy my boy! :)
