I am very fed up of the place I currently keep my horse, I get nothing for my horse. I am thinking of taking my horse back to an old place I kept him at.
I have made a list of the pros and cons, What would you do ?
Pros of moving him
The yard has other horses and owners (I wouldn't be totally on my own for once)
small outdoor school which has lights and jumps
2 large grassy fields
a tap
a hose (Sounds stupid but you'll see why after)
large stables
quality hay and straw; self serve
mucking out, feeding, watering etc. in price
Extra horse that we can all share and ride when we like (I could ride out with my sharer who is currently riding out on her own too)
nice hacking
jumps available to use
lights in stables, radio, just little things that make it nicer
Knowlegable YO, farmworkers etc.
Everyone tidies after everyone, not YO who is very untidy
cons
yard is 20mins away in car and I HAVE NO TRANSPORT (apart from parents, friends, bus..) but my parents drive past the area about 4 times a week + weekends so I can go up there regulary in the week aswell as riding him all weekend (my horse has a wonderful loaner now who I trust 100%). I would have to wait around sometimes hours (in the winter too) to get a lift back.
turnout is all or nothing (out all the time or in all the time) which doesn't actually bother me that much.. (in all winter out all summer)
Costs an extra 200euros a year (which is nothing)
Pros where he is NOW
he is 5 mins walk from my house
Big field (there are none around here)
cons about where he is NOW :
His stable has a dirt floor that is a nightmare in the winter when he's in
YO is the tightest person I have ever known
Horse doesn't have enough hay so eats his straw, so then has no bed
We constantly have to fight with YO it seems to get anything
1 field, which they are only allowed to use 3 months of the year as YO wants to make hay
3 horses- 1 colt and 1 mare that is so horrible my boy constantly gets bitten etc.
only me.. So on my own all the time
-not allowed to ride in field, no school, crap hacking, no lights so no point going up after dark to check/ride on him
nowhere to ride/school apart from the very few lanes
No tap, as I said YO is so tight the tap and hose is locked away in his shed
there is only one proper surface which is so small we can barely tie up one horse, the rest is mud so is a nightmare
Open tackroom so tack gets moldy and dusty (not even a door)
YO took my horse out without asking, which I flipped at, this has annoyed me greatly
CRAP everywhere, it's just a junk site as YO doesn't want to throw anything away, it's not harmful to the horses, but it's just a mess (everything is out of the way from the horses).
I pay 120e/month in the winter and 100e/month in the summer for this BUT I buy all feed, and am going to have to pay for all hay and straw this winter as horse is constantly starving and has no bedding.
As some of you might know I am looking to moving back to England in about six months, Should I stick it out, getting nothing for my money and paying twice as much just to keep ned in a stable with bedding and enough hay to stop him going hungry BUT him being 5 mins walk from my house or take him out within the next month to this other yard before then moving him to England in the near future ?
Horse in question has just turned 10 and settles very well in new places
