I lost my dog of a lifetime almost 2 months ago. I've loved all my dogs but holly was special.
My lurcher seems to be struggling without her (he's never been an outwardly happy chap unless its walk time or he's chasing)
He's eating and coming on walks but turns his nose up at treats unless there's competition.
I do dog walking and sitting so he's generally got other dogs around but holly was his constant companion ever since I picked him up from the pound 5 years ago.
I don't know whether getting another dog is the right thing or not. Do you think having another constant companion is the way to go?
What would you do?

Thing is, he's so used to dogs coming and going I can't see a major problem BUT that also means whatever dog I do get would have to be pretty easy going. Just don't want to mess his head up really

I'd get another. We used to have just one and thought he was fine, but 5 years ago we got a second and they "love" each other to pieces. They do everything together and I think it's lovely that they can cuddle up and snooze together.

It's very difficult knowing what the right thing to do is. My dogs sister was killed at 18 months old. They'd always had each other. He was devastated and we got another dog a few months later (a rescue). My original dog is an absolute sweetheart and is very good with the newer dog, but it will never replace his sister. He tolerates her and will occasionally play with her, but when she tries to snuggle up to him he always gets up and moves.
I think he would have preferred it if we had never got her.
