If you had just split up with someone that you've been with for 18yrs, lost all your income (for the time being), possibly have to move house, suffered from health conditions and had an 18yr old horse that you could no longer keep due to all the afore mentioned. I have tried all the usual but to no avail it seems as soon as they know his age etc they don't want to know. Am I the only one who doesn't think he's that old in this day and age? Don't like to think about it but would anyone in this position consider PTS?

Depends on any health issues and his breed I guess, could you consider loan? I am struggling with this issue too on a retired 11 year old pony, PTS is a possibility for me too unfortunately :(

That's just it he doesn't have any health issues in fact he's as fit as a flea! I think it's probably due to the fact he's a ex-racehorse that starts peoples alarm bells ringing, I was hoping to put him out on loan but still no takers! I don't really want to pts as he has years left in the tank.

Devestating, but if I couldn't guarantee his future I would PTS, by God that would be hard though. An ex of mine had his ex racer PTS at about 16 as he was moving abroad, and the horse was very difficult to handle and ride, and had sarcoids which weren't responding to treatment - it caused a lot of upset at the time, but there was no chance that there would be a happy ending for that horse. I do hope the perfect person comes along soon.
