Sorry if this may come across as stupid/pointless post!

since I found out my horse had fractured top of cannon bone which has a screw in now, after surgery I have been reluctant to school him to the level he was working at beforehand (advance medium) or jump him (although nothing bigger than 3ft) although he has never been seriously lame on that leg occasionally he is a little stiff, he certainly is not ready to be retired when I rode the other day he tried airs above the ground :-) so I know he isn't in pain and is feeling well

so why can't I stop worrying about his hind leg!!!! :-( sorry if this is pointless

Because you care about him :)

If the vet gave you the go ahead to start working him again just take it nice and slow and see how you get on?

It's normal to worry and I think that will get less as time goes on once you realise he's ok. My understanding is that when bone fractures have healed they are as strong, if not stronger than before as new bone is laid down. They are not like injuries to ligaments/tendons which can be weakened and horses can continue to have issues with them.

If it helps, many racehorses that have broken their legs and had ops/plates/pins put in, go back to racing (over fences again) and have no further issues and it does not affect their performance.
