Have been offer a 6yrs gelding to buy for basically meat money................ as current owner can't ride one side of it ?? It just needs a good routine and work and them could sell for big profit??
Does have sweet ich.. but can be managed, On plus side has won show classes and can jump and with good jockey will make good little Rc horse or even do BE. As current owner can't cope, So do I step in? and buy OR do i NOT get invovled as have a lot on my own plate and do i really want 3 horses????????????? and i think strings will be attached to sell etc.........
what would you do?
I'll add here i'm very bad at selling horses, as i get tooo attached, so very frighten that if i buy will not be able to sell

Depends on the strings they want to attatch to the sale...... If they are going to keep wanting to see the horse and know exactly what you are doing and why i would say no if you can pay them take it away and do as you please i would say go for it!

i've done it before, but i just know that folk can get funny if you buy for £500 and sell for £3000. They just see money not the fact you've had to work damn hard to correct their riding out (it rears and bucks but i have it on good knowledge that when she went on holiday and she got someone else to ride who could, and not a problem at all)........... plus i work full-time and compete my own 2 ggs.
As i could do with dosh but do i really want to deal with rubbish that goes along with it...............

As said, depends on the strings. If the current owner wants to have a say in what you do with the horse, conditions on selling it on etc. then honestly I'd pass. If they've let the horse get to the point he is they might not be that realistic in their expectations. At the very least I'd want everything in writing, including an agreement releasing you from any financial responsibility to them if/when you sell the horse.

Plus you have to factor in the cost of keeping the animal, especially if you have to keep it for a bit. Depending on how it comes 'round and on how much you, personally, have to pay out it might not be worth it from a profit point of view even if you do get a relatively good sale in the end.

I was told by a very successful producer/competitor/dealer than he never bought any horse to sell on that he wouldn't want to go out and see in his barn every morning. That way, worst case scenerio, he ended up with a horse he liked and in the meantime it made it much easier to put time and effort into the horse. I guess if you could see yourself buying him if he didn't have the training issues then all you're doing it paying with time and effort rather than money.

Well we have just had to semi retire our gelding so are on the look out for a project. If I was in my shoes I would go for it but if in yours with too much on my hands already probably not!!!

thx-sound advise about producer quote........
now OH has offered to lend me dosh so thinking about it??????????
But need to see horse and work out plan........... as no way do i want to take three horses into winter so would need to do fast turn around...........
