Sorry another post on poo picking. I share about 1 1/2 acre with another pony. Inky is out during the day and in at night ( help keep his watermellon belly down! ) and the other pony stays out 24/7. Now we have been given this field for just our own use and my take on it is that we should look after it. I poo pick every other day but my friend just WONT do it!! It really annoys me as inky is only out half the time and REALLY does do hamster size poo's. I just seem to be mucking her horses poo out all the time. She doesnt do the water and doesnt pay for any batteries for the electric fence. ( i paid £500 for the fence... yes i know my fault for getting a mini ) Now considering her horse is out 24/7 i expect her to do some of the work and pay for at least the odd set of batteries but NO. She knows i will do it anyway as i cant stand to see my horse stood upto his neck in poo with a field full of flies. What would you do? Would you keep having a go and risk a big fall out or just do it and shut up? It is really getting me down and really annoys me when she says "im bored ive no mucking out to do!" ARGHHHHH!!!!!

Answers please on a postcard!!

Perhaps you should put up a rota - which includes poo picking and replacing the batteries. Or put up a list, and complete it when you do it. She may well get the message. It may not occur to her that poo picking needs to be done.

You can't let it carry on this way - You will get frazzled and frustrated.

Make a list of the possible solutions and look at the pros and cons of each. If you are to carry on sharing you need to have a friendly word with her.....If that does not work you may need to enforce some rules/a rota.....

Could you not split the field in half with your electric fence. The ponies should be ok if they can see each other and you will only have your side to poo pick.

i would do that, they can still get close and you know you're only poo picking the right amount and it would take over half the amount of time less!!! put your bloody foot down, your as bad as me!!!!!!!!!

FMM - She really does know it needs doing, she just cant be arsed to put it politely!!!

Sophie and Mad_Cob_Fan - That would seem a good solution but im not a fan off keeping them in a field on their own, he's only a yearling and think he needs the interaction with another pony to teach him the life basics ( but if the pony is as lazy as its owner he's not going to learn much is he!!!

)

Mickey - Think i do need to have words!!!!

I have been dropping hints like "ive took two barrows of poo out today but i cant keep up, its going to have to be done more often" but what i think i need to start saying is " get off you lazy ar*e and do some poo picking!! "

I would have a word and say that the owner of the field has commented or something similar, you dont mind doing your share but bearing in mind inky must do poos the size of rabbit pellets, and is in at night, don't kill yourself doing all the work!

PS we pick JC up on Friday!!! Just bought a mark todd dog rug that may fit him!!

Will the owner of the field intervene to state they expect a certain standard of care from both of you.

Say you will prepare a rota, at our yard if out 24 x 7 we have to do 4 barrows a week and if out by day only, then 2 barrows a week - put the rota up and then stick to your allocation. If the field starts to look messy, then complain to the owner that the second person is not doing their share.

If owner or sharer will not take the up the slack, then ask to split the field and leave her to drown in her own poo - sorry for her horse, but it is not fair on you.

I used to get this at other yards - I would be breaking my back taking barrow after barrow off the field. In the end I forced a rota - put up printed sheet, with name, amount and week day - and was my bossy self in making sure it was done.

I was lucky in with the yard owner backing me up and helping to ensure the rota was kept to.

Where we are now, we have an amount we are expected to do each week and have to write down when we poo picked and how much.

I am now so happy in my own paddock with just my two. I love a clean field and hate those who are too bloody lazy to do their own share and expect others to take up the slack.

wow, i feel for you, ive spent at least several entire days cleaning a paddock that has had 8 horses on it since about january and not one barrow has been taken out.
no-one else will do it and because i want mine in a clean field im having to do it.

once its finished though the YO is looking like she's going to enforce a rota
