What sort of pony would you expect to be able to buy for between £2500 and £3000? If it was 13hh - 14.2hh? If you wanted an allrounder for general riding and possibly local level comps would that be the bottom of the scale or would you be able to get a really nice pony for that?

really depends! was looking through magazine at the prices of horses nowadays and WOW people want what 5 grand for a happy hacking, weight-bearing cob!!!
We sold our pony what 6 years ago to a lovely famiky for £2500, he was a fab genuine little pony, a little grey 13.1, liked jumping and had fab little paces but i wouldnt have said he had 'scope'!!

To be honest I would look around, If i had a nice pony and found a nice/exp. family i would most honestly lowere the price as would rather this then sell to a spoilt brat kid wh couldnt ride but had millionaire parents!!!!

In my opinion you could get a NICE little genuine pony, just look around and make sure you try it and ask for history :)

good luck!

I think it depends on whereabouts in the country you are, to a certain extent. We are in the South East - which is expensive, but I have seen horses that would be say £4,000 round here for £2,500 ish. But I think the previous poster was correct - there are plenty of bargains to be had at the moment (and we are coming into 'expensive' winter, of course). My YO keeps saying 'oooh, bit expensive that, bargain them down!';)
