What would you feed??

me and a friens were talking about different feeding ideas today ( yes sad in know! ) and how different people have different ideas about what to feed whith their being som many different feeds out there.

We were talking about Inky and we had totaslly different ideas!! So iwondered what would you feed my pony if he was yours??

Inky is a 32" three year old miniature stallion ( not covering ) at 110kg. He is being free lunged 5 times a week for 20- 30 minutes comprising of walk, trot and canter. He is very laid back and needs something to maintain his condition without putting too much weight on him but does need a feed that will give him some energy and help his muscle development. He is not easily exciteable on heating feeds.

He is out 24/7 on limited grazing but has hay overnight.

What would you feed??

Alfalfa to provide protein and energy and a vitamin/mineral supplemnt. Definately wouldnt feed cereals or cereal based feeds.

As for shortfeed - nothing. His breed are usually good-doers and his workload doesn't really require any extra. I have a 17.2 warmblood schooling for an hour every weekday and hacking 2 to 3 hours Sat and Sun. He has ad lib hay and a few handfulls of happy hoof ... And he is very well conditioned!
