We have a young girl at our field who got her first horse 3 mths ago, we were talking about winter and what feeds we would be feeding she recons hers will be on a handful of chop with garlic and a bale of hay will last a week, i said that im sure she would need more than that especially hay ...what do you think,

she is a 14.3hh tbx ? she will be stabled from 5pm till 8am, and ridden 3 to 4 times a week also she is planning on giving her a full clip

she has seen that a bale hay last my 12hh welsh a week so thinks hers will have the same.

Would depend alot on whether it keeps weight on easily or not, I would have thought 2 bales of hay a week, hard feed would depend on condition and is not as important as hay.

my sec D eats about 3 bales of hay per week in winter, he's about 14.3hh.....my 14hh good doer cob gets 1/2 a bale a day and she lives out, so I think she's going to be looking at more than a bale a week!!!!

Are the girls parents around? Someone needs to take proper responsibility for the horses winter feed regime. As a guide, my newfie got through around 2 bales of hay, and 1 haylage a week last winter...that was with hay being put out in the field as well
