What would you of done? (injured loan horse)

Went to see horse today and he had a big gash on his leg that had to be treated by a vet and this was the first i had heared about it and this happend 2 weeks ago and he has only out on loan for 4 weeks.
I was really mad that i hadn't been informed about this as it said on my contract that i shoud be informed if he had to be treated by a vet and she keeps trying to push e into doing stuff her way.
I am now thinking that i should just get him back as i am really angry and worried as all this has happened in just 4 weeks and i really am not getting on with her.
What do you think am i being unreasonable?
 
she didn't know told me either in the field from a kick or he may have done it on a bit of wire it was just the fact that it had happend a couple of weeks ago and it was still weeping and they were comepeteing and she signed a contract saying she would contact me if any veterinary care was treated etc
 
I would not be happy about that, especially if you stipulated that you wanted to be informed if your horse required any veterinary treatment. I have had my horse out on loan before and they have always consulted me before any vet/farriery treatment (mainly because I was still paying!).

I would talk to the loanee, tell them its not acceptable and if it happens again terminate the contract.
 
There's a couple of issues here it seems. No. 1 that you seem very anxious about this home and No. 2 that there seems to be a breakdown in communication.

Accidents happen, we all know that. And providing it has been treated appropriately then I can't see what the problem is. Do you want to be informed of every scratch the horse receives??

However, if you think they are not looking after your horse properly, or are regretting the loan for other reasons - then end it.
 
it was mainly because it was a severe wound and it was still swollen and he was still in full work and i had a contract saying i was to beinformed of him recieving any veterinary treatment and
 
Ah, then I think you're right to be unhappy. Did you tell them to withdraw the horse from the competition? Did they say why they hadn't contacted you?
 
it a teenager thats got him so you sort of have to go about it tactfully as they are really excited about competeing and he wasn't lame on it i just feel they see me as a bit irrelevent to them as it was the worst sort of cut i had seen and is about 1 foot long am going to ring her tomorrow and tell them i am not happy
 
I would be a bit annoyed that they hadnt let me know as agreed if the horse needed veterinary treatment.
I would also be annoyed that the horse was being worked with a swollen weeping leg, unless it was gentle exercise to reduce the swelling?
I would also not be happy with any horse of mine being turned out with 28 other horses.
I would have a talk with them and let them know you are unhappy and see what they have to say.
 
So, what did they say about not contacting you - and did you ask them to withdraw him from the competition?

And presumably the contract is with the parent, not the child??
 
I would be fetching horse right at this moment in time. If they do not report a significant injury to you how do you know if it had a "unseen" problem that they would not continue to work him. I would not ride a horse of my own with a swollen, weeping cut and i certainly would not expect someone else to. What would happen if it became infected and a huge vets bill was due - bet you would be told about it then !

Get him back now for your sake - you will never rest properly again !
 
thanks Gingerwitch thats what i thought but didn't want to seem unreasonable i am going to ring them tomorrow and give her a warning and if she doesn't accept this then i will be bringing him home wednesday she also keeps pushing for his passport and insurance to be in their name which makes red alarm bells off ringing
 
I'd be there with a trailer or box to collect him quicker than you could blink. Nobody who treated my horse like that would get a second chance, not when it was stipulated that you were notified of any such events. Don't like the sound of pressing for his passport and insurance to be in their name either. There is absolutely no need for that whatsoever. Hate to say it but sounds well dodgy to me.

Personally I wouldn't be making a call to give them a second chance, this doesn't sound right to me at all. Sorry.
 
Thanks i am just glad i am getting a bit more reassurance that i am not being harsh etc going to ring them tomorrow and arrange for him to come back home
 
I agree, you shouldn't be worrying about your horse whilst he is on loan!

And the passport and insurance thing would definitely worry me.
