Very well bred 12hh welsh a x welsh b gelding. 4 years old, ready to be broken, well handeled leads and lunges and has had tack on. Very good with farrier. Great showing potential, and basic absolute sweetie.
I am very tempted to take him on to break and sell, I just dont want to pay too much!. Any advice much appreciated

Comparing to other prices I've seen - At least £800; more like £1500 - would be more if it was broken. If you can get it for less than £800 then you've got a bargain.
 
She is asking 750 for him, I think she would go down to 700. I was looking at spending a few hundred less but he is well bred and will show well. So will sell for more I guess
 
Can you humour me for a moment; is this a crossbreed then? If it is Sec A and B?

I know not a lot about Welshies I'm afraid.
 
I dont know - perhaps a cross-type?

if it's section a it will be up to 12hh, if it section b it would be 12hh to 13.2hh i think, so if it a cross of the 2 it's adult height will determen (sp) what section it would be registered to, i would say the price is about right but only if it's registered
 
There is no way I'd pay up to £1500 for a welsh A x B at only 4 years old.

I'd be thinking around £500 and up around £800 when broken as then the hard work of schooling comes into view.

If the horse was well schooled, safe in all ways around children etc then I would think higher in price but at the moment definitely not.

Thankyou for your input. I think I will buy, and would like him broken and reasonably schooled plus taken to some shows before he is sold again.
He's a bit of a fatty at the mo though, I dont know where I'll find a saddle to fit him, he's almost concave on top

Oh so it all depends on the size as to which sub-breed they are registered with? How bizarre. I used to have a little Sec A and she looked absolutely nothing like a Sec B or C or D but from what you are saying had she grown larger than 12hh all I would have to have done would be to register her in the Sec B?

I honestly thought that the sections were completely different and the bloodlines were different - but as I say I know nowt about Welshies.

So is the mare registered with Sec A - and more to the point does she look like a Sec A?

With the Welsh a and B crosses they take their sire section so if Daddy was a sec B the foal will be a section B if daddy was an A the foal is an A if he does grow over 12 hnds (if he is an A) you can rereg as a B whcih then makes a mockery of the sec B type
 
I feel £800 is way too much; £450 is about right.
Try and work out what it will cost you in keep/time/feed/livery if necessary and add that on to his likely price when broken and going good enough to compete.
I think you will find that at £750 you won't make any profit at all in the long run....
 
im buying a 12.2h sec a x, not reg but lovely pony she's 5yrs unbroken, im paying £350 and im hopefully going to sell her as a childs pony for between £1000-£1200, you would be surprised but that is the going price for nice little ponies at the min, as long as its good to handle and good in traffic etc... theres money to be made!!! its my 1st project, ive decided sod it im going to be a producer!! he he he he he !!!!!!!!!
