Hi all, long time lurker but first post, hope this is in the right place. I've just moved out of London to Cheshire and would love to be riding regularly again. I was thinking about taking the plunge and re-entering the horse world, but I'm not sure how. I'm a fairly competent rider but have no badminton/grand national ambitions. Would you recommend looking for a loan/share first or diving in and buying my own? I'm happy to wait a bit until the horse market calms down. I was thinking a large native or cob would suit for a bit of hacking, small jumps and low level dressage? I'm 5'4 and weigh about 80 kg in my riding gear. I've had my own horse in the past but sold up when I went to do my postgrad.
Thanks in advance for anyone who has any advice for me!

Lessons to start to get your feel back in a bit, plenty of places do hacking as well as school lessons.
Then a share is a great idea, plenty advertised on local facebook groups or preloved.

Coming into autumn and as post furlough redundancies start to impact so many people, there will be plenty of people looking for sharers/ part loan.

Thank you everyone, I agree lessons would be a good idea as its been a while since I've done anything but hack. It would be ideal if a nice share horse came up towards the end of summer!

Lessons and hang round the yard a bit. One of my YOs found my horse for me. People on yards tend to know of horses for sale and that alone is worth having some connections on a yard.
